Qatar Airways Quietly Extends Privilege Club Tiers (Again)

Qatar Airways has given all of its frequent flyers yet another status extension, this time until the end of December 2023.

There was no official announcement about this. It also appears that the airline has not proactively contacted its members to inform them of the good news. But many AFF members have discovered when logging into their Qatar Airways Privilege Club accounts that their status, which was due to expire on 31 March 2023, is now valid until 31 December 2023.

If you’re a Qatar Airways Privilege Club member, there’s nothing you need to do to claim this additional elite status extension. It should be automatically applied to your account.

This follows a 3-month Qatar status extension given at the end of 2022 to members that didn’t fly enough to otherwise renew their status last year.

Qatar Airways has been automatically extending its members’ Privilege Club status since 2020 due to COVID-19. It was one of the first major airlines to offer a second status tier extension in 2021. And it’s now one of the last airlines to continue giving status extensions.

For most other major airlines, 2022 was the final year of complimentary status extensions due to the pandemic. Qantas has committed to extending its members’ status tiers until June 2023.

The gift that keeps on giving

Many AFF members originally got their Qatar Airways Privilege Club status from a status match in 2020. That really has proven to be the gift that keeps on giving, especially as Qatar Airways Gold and Platinum status now affords privileges including lounge access when flying both Qantas and Virgin Australia!

To continue enjoying the benefits of Privilege Club status beyond the end of 2022, the usual qualification criteria will apply. Privilege Club members will need to earn the required amount of Qpoints from Qatar Airways and/or Oneworld flights. A certain amount of that flying needs to be on Qatar Airways marketed or operated flights.
