If you’ve flown with Qantas in the last year, you have until Wednesday, 30 August 2023 to claim your free gift of bonus Qantas points or status credits.

No, this isn’t a scam – it’s a giveaway announced today by Qantas on the back of its $2.47 billion full-year profit. Qantas says it’s a thank-you gift to its frequent flyers for their loyalty when times were tough.

“Our customers have shown a lot of patience and understanding as the industry has recovered. We’ve announced a points or status credits gift today but we know the best way we can thank them is to consistently deliver the standards they rightly expect, and reinvest our profits to keep improving their experience,” outgoing Qantas CEO Alan Joyce said.

Qantas says that it will give away more than one billion points as part of this giveaway.

Qantas also announced new firm aircraft orders today for another 12 Airbus A350-1000s, 8 Boeing 787-9s and 4 Boeing 787-10s.

How many points or status credits can you get?

Qantas Frequent Flyer members who’ve flown with Qantas between 1-9 times since 1 July 2022 are invited to select either 1,000 bonus frequent flyer points or 30 status credits.

If you’ve flown 10 or more times on Qantas marketed and operated flights since 1 July 2022, you’ll be offered a higher bonus of either 5,000 Qantas points or 75 status credits. This includes travel on Qantas Classic Flight Reward bookings.

In general, if you have status with Qantas or aspire to upgrade to a higher tier, we would suggest choosing the status credits. But if you don’t fly enough to earn Qantas status – or don’t currently need any more status credits – the bonus points are still a nice gift!

These are the terms & conditions from Qantas relating to the bonus gift:

Limit of one gift per Eligible Member. Once a gift has been selected, there is no change of mind. Qantas Points and Status Credit amounts are based on the flying activity of the Qantas Frequent Flyer within the period stated above. Flights taken on Jetstar, partner airlines, or any flight that is not operated by Qantas, or staff travel flights are excluded from this offer. Status Credits earned from this offer do not count towards Loyalty Bonus, Platinum Bonus Reward, Platinum One Bonus Reward and Status Accelerator earn requirements. Status Credits are not transferable and are governed by the Qantas Frequent Flyer terms and conditions. Gifts will be credited within 4 business days of selection. Exclusions and eligibility criteria apply. Qantas may extend or withdraw this offer at any time.

How to claim your reward

You can claim your reward in the Qantas App. If you don’t already have the App, you can download it for free to your smartphone or tablet. And if you have an older version of the App, you may first need to update it.

You’ll be prompted to select your reward from the home screen.

Qantas has also sent emails to eligible frequent flyers with instructions.

Received the below in my Qantas app this morning. Full T&Cs available here: https://www.qantas.com/au/en/freque...-from-qantas-terms.html?client_id=qftravelapp

Appears to be a choice of 30/75 status credits or 1000/5000 points.

Must select your gift by 30 August - which is slightly annoying for those with a 1 September anniversary date (like myself) as the 75 SCs would have been a nice way to start the new year!

75SC or 5K pts for me too.

Will allow me to choose the points for Green Tier rather than the SCs. Very nice.

Hard to say no to 75 SCs here compared to 5000 points.

5K or 75SC ... as with others the 75SC are of no use to my October 31st expiry date as I have already requalified ...

Of course there's the caveat that you must have by 21 August 2023, booked a Qantas (QF) marketed and operated flight for travel between 1 July 2022 [i.e. Last Year] and 30 August 2023.

I certainly had so "qualified".

Did any receive this offer in their app who had not made such a booking?
