Qantas has upgraded the panini bar in its domestic Business Lounge at Sydney Airport, with the addition of Neil Perry burgers.

For the past fortnight, burgers have been available to order from the panini bar at the far end of the lounge between 11am and 7pm – and they’ve been a smash hit.

I came across the burgers during a visit to this lounge last week, and just had to try one – for science, of course. đŸ˜‰

Taste-testing the Qantas lounge burger

I thought the Qantas lounge burger was pretty good! Although I personally found the bun a tad dry, the beef patty was succulent and the additional toppings – tomato, lettuce, beetroot relish, special sauce and cheese that the staff melted onto the meat – rounded out a surprisingly solid airport burger.

If you want to add tomato sauce or mustard, those are also available from self-service bowls on the side. You have the option to get potato chips on the side as well.

The beef patties are pre-cooked but the burger is otherwise built to order, so you can customise it however you like. I also saw a lounge guest requesting two beef patties with melted cheese (and nothing else), which the staff happily provided.

The usual paninis are also still available, but the burgers are definitely the more popular option. The staff at the panini bar told me that they’ve pretty much just been making burgers non-stop since they were introduced two weeks ago.

How long will Qantas continue serving lounge burgers?

At this stage, Qantas plans to keep serving the Neil Perry burgers in its domestic Sydney Business Lounge until the end of January 2026. But based on their popularity, I don’t think anyone would really complain if the burgers became a permanent fixture of this lounge…

Virgin Australia used to serve Betty’s Burgers sliders in some of its lounges on Friday evenings. These were also very popular, but sadly that partnership has ended.

Specialty food at other Qantas domestic Business Lounges

Most of Qantas’ six domestic Business Lounges have a special food offering that’s unique to that lounge. In addition to the panini bar in Sydney, you’ll find:

  • A spice bar in Melbourne
  • A pizza bar in Perth
  • An oven serving a variety of rotating dishes in Brisbane
  • A Market Kitchen in Adelaide serving local dishes inspired by the Adelaide Central Markets
