Qantas is now waiving change and cancellation fees for all new and existing Classic Flight Reward bookings until 31 October 2020. This includes Classic Flight Reward bookings made for travel after October 2020, provided you make the change or cancel your booking by the the end of October.

The Qantas “Fly Flexible” offer is good news for those with existing reward bookings that they are no longer able to use. The increased flexibility with this generous policy is also designed to encourage new bookings.

Under Fly Flexible, free changes & cancellation applies to Qantas Classic Flight Reward bookings only. This includes Oneworld round-the-world awards, but does not include any bookings that contain a mixture of reward flights and commercial airfares.

Meanwhile, Qantas is currently offering customers with commercial flight bookings, for travel between August and October 2020, the opportunity to cancel for a Qantas credit voucher until 30 June 2020. But keep in mind that you’ll always be entitled to a refund if Qantas cancels your flight.

Qantas normally charges 5,000 Qantas Frequent Flyer points to change a Classic Flight Reward booking, or 6,000 points to cancel.

If you do wish to cancel or change your Qantas reward booking, you should be able to do this on the Qantas website. But for bookings that cannot be altered online, such as reward flights operated by partner airlines, you may need to call Qantas (or contact the airline on social media).

Service fees will still apply if you change a reward flight booking over the phone, however this fee is normally waived for Classic Flight Reward bookings in Business or First class.

Velocity Frequent Flyer has also introduced more flexibility for new Velocity reward seat bookings. If you redeem Velocity points between 15 May and 31 August 2020, for travel after 1 September 2020, you’ll be able to change or cancel without paying fees until the end of August. But this flexibility does not extend to existing bookings. Velocity is no longer offering refunds at all for reward bookings made before 15 May 2020.
