Premium Economy is an increasingly popular middle-ground between Economy and Business class. But according to one disappointed member, the experience is NOT worth the premium price-tag.

This member flew Singapore Airlines to Europe and back, paying significantly more than an Economy ticket. But they did not find the Premium Economy service to be a marked step-up from cattle class. This member was particularly dissatisfied with the poor legroom and having to share toilets with Economy class, although they did enjoy the catering.

Premium Economy generally costs around double the price of Economy. But it can be a good alternative to Business class if you don’t want to fly Economy but can’t afford a Business ticket. For long-haul travel, the extra creature comforts on offer can make the trip just a little more bearable. But it seems the experience varies wildly between airlines.

Numerous members agree that Premium Economy did not meet expectations. However, others say that they were very satisfied. Qantas, Virgin Australia and Air New Zealand have all received positive reviews. But views on Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific are mixed. While Cathay’s Premium Economy seats are comfortable, our members have found the food and service to be sub-par.

One member opines that Premium Economy can be great value if the price is right, but that you’d be disappointed if you expected it to be like Business class.
