Etihad Guest is an interesting frequent flyer program because there are a large assortment of partner airlines that you can redeem miles to fly on. Many of the award charts are illogical and the charts for each partner airline bear no resemblance to one another. On some airlines, award flights are ridiculously overpriced. For travel on other partner airlines, redeeming Etihad Guest miles can be quite good value.
Etihad Airways is not in an alliance. In addition to redeeming for Etihad Airways flights, you can spend Etihad Guest miles to fly with any of the following partner airlines as of April 2020:
- Air Europa
- Air Serbia
- Air Seychelles
- Air New Zealand
- All Nippon Airways
- American Airlines
- Bangkok Airways
- Brussels Airlines
- Czech Airlines
- Garuda Indonesia
- Gulf Air
- Hainan Airlines
- Korean Air
- Malaysia Airlines
- Oman Air
- Royal Air Maroc
- Scandinavian Airlines
- Sri Lankan Airlines
- Virgin Australia
Award flights on Etihad Airways itself are average in value. It may work out cheaper to redeem Virgin Australia Velocity points or American Airlines AAdvantage miles for Etihad flights instead. You can redeem miles for Etihad award flights on the Etihad Guest website, and you can use Etihad’s mileage calculator to find out the number of miles required on a given route.
For flights on partner airlines, awards are priced according to the award chart for that specific airline. Award charts are published on the Etihad Airways website.
You can only redeem Etihad Guest awards to fly on one partner airline per ticket; you cannot combine partner airlines on a single award ticket. Awards are priced as point-to-point flights and there are no free stopovers.
If you wish to travel on Virgin Australia, the sweet spot is flights under 1,250 miles in distance. These cost 6,900 miles in Economy or 13,800 miles in Business. Routes in this category include Sydney-Cairns, Sydney-Queenstown, Perth-Broome, Melbourne-Hamilton Island and Brisbane-Port Vila.
To book award flights on any partner airline, you’ll need to call Etihad Guest. From Australia, the phone number is 1300 532 215. Partner airline award flights must be booked at least 24 hours in advance.
