This week one member is less than impressed with the shocking service from online travel agent “BYOjet”. After paying for a flight, the member received a ticket for a flight 3 months after the date booked. But this was just the start of the problems. When the member tried to contact BYOjet, they were advised that they would need to pay $180 to change the flight which originally cost just $150. Our member feels that this is unacceptable, as they believe BYOjet made the error in the first place.
With BYOjet refusing to change the flight to the date booked, or provide a refund, one member suggests carrying out a credit card chargeback.
According to one member, these kind of dodgy business practices are not unique to BYOjet. Many other smaller online travel agencies offer cheap airfares in order to appear at the top of Skyscanner searches and to lure in customers. But when it comes to customer service, many online travel agencies fail dismally. Many also charge excessive booking, flight change and cancellation fees. This member suggests avoiding booking with online travel agents where possible. While Skyscanner can be a useful flight search and comparison tool, it’s often better to book directly with the airline, or with a travel agent in-person.
Thankfully, other members have had more positive experiences with BYOjet. However, they warn to always check the fare conditions, including change fees. These are often much higher than those charged by the airline. One member also recommends taking a screenshot of the booking before completing the payment.
