Malaysia Airlines started flying its new Airbus A350-900 to Sydney earlier this month, and the airline is now selling First Class on these flights. This is great news if you have Qantas points, as there is plenty of A350 First Class award availability!
The Malaysia Airlines A350 is configured with Economy, Business and First Class seating. With just four seats in the First Class cabin, privacy and attentive service is guaranteed.
Malaysia Airlines will continue to use the Airbus A350-900 on one of its two daily Sydney-Kuala Lumpur flights until 31 March 2019. Here are the flights to look out for:
- MH122 Sydney 13:10 – Kuala Lumpur 18:45
- MH123 Kuala Lumpur 23:35 – Sydney 10:55 (+1 day)
If you’re keen to fly Malaysia Airlines First Class out of Sydney, the good news is that award availability is excellent. There are many dates with 2 or 3 First Class awards available. On some flights, in fact, all 4 seats in the small First cabin are available for award redemptions! For example, a quick Expert Flyer search for award space at the end of November shows plenty of First Class award availability:
You can redeem Qantas points to book Malaysia Airlines flights. A reward seat from Sydney to Kuala Lumpur in First Class will set you back 95,000 Qantas Frequent Flyer points plus $101.21 in taxes. You can book a seat using Qantas points on the Qantas website.
The same redemption would cost 75,000 Cathay Pacific Asia Miles or 50,000 American Airlines AAdvantage miles.
Only a small handful of Oneworld airlines operate First Class cabins into Australia. Among other things, the new A350 First Class availability with Malaysia Airlines out of Sydney adds another useful option if you’re trying to book a Oneworld Award in First Class.
Malaysia Airlines First Class award availability between Kuala Lumpur and Japan is also typically very good.
