Earning frequent flyer points for food delivery

Qantas partners with Uber, but the ability to earn Qantas Points on Uber Eats orders is extremely limited. Currently, Uber One members (only) can earn 1 Qantas Point per $2 spent on Uber Eats, but only as a limited-time promotion until 15 June 2025.

When ordering online with Pizza Hut, you can earn your choice of 2 Velocity or Qantas Points per $1 by ordering through either the Velocity e-Store or Qantas Shopping online mall.

You can also earn Everyday Rewards points – which you can convert into Qantas Points – when ordering groceries from MILKRUN or Woolworths Online. And you’ll earn Flybuys points – which you can transfer to Velocity Points – on deliveries from Coles.

It was previously possible to earn Velocity Points when ordering food through Menulog via the Velocity eStore, but this partnership ended a little while ago.

Qantas Frequent Flyer launched a partnership in 2016 with Deliveroo, another major food delivery service in Australia. But that partnership ended in 2019.

Are food delivery apps good for restaurants?

For restaurants, food delivery apps have been a double-edged sword. On one hand, they bring in new business and make it easier for restaurants to offer home delivery, without having to employ their own drivers. But these apps also typically charge restaurants around 30% commission on every order that comes through them.

With these kinds of margins, it’s little wonder that services like DoorDash can afford to pay out a frequent flyer point on each dollar spent. But if you want to support your local restaurant, you might want to think twice about ordering through a third-party if it would be just as easy for you to call the restaurant directly. The frequent flyer points notwithstanding.
