ANZ Withdraws Travel Adventures Card

The ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures credit card is no longer available to new customers, with the bank withdrawing the card from sale last month.

Costing $120 per year, this card was the only personal credit card offered by ANZ with no international transaction fees. The card also came with complimentary travel insurance and earned ANZ Rewards points. These points could be transferred to the Velocity, KrisFlyer, Cathay and Airpoints frequent flyer programs.

When it was first introduced in 2017, the card had a $225 annual fee but also came with a free annual return Virgin Australia flight and two annual Virgin Australia Lounge passes. Sadly, the Virgin Australia perks were removed in 2020 – making the card significantly less attractive to some people.

On its website, ANZ says that the ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures card is no longer available because:

We regularly review our product range considering changing customer needs/preferences as well as the broader market landscape, and as a result have decided to stop selling these products.

That being said, one AFF member was able to switch after this change was announced from a different ANZ card to the Travel Adventures product using the bank’s website.

Existing cardholders can continue to use their ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures credit cards as normal. The card will continue to be supported, but just won’t be made available to new customers. The bank says that existing customers do not need to do anything.

Other credit cards with no overseas purchase fees

If you’re looking for a credit card that doesn’t charge a fee for purchases made with an overseas merchant or in another currency, there are plenty of other options in Australia.

The Bankwest Qantas Platinum, Bankwest Qantas World, CommBank Ultimate Awards and Coles Rewards Mastercard all charge no international purchase fees and offer the ability to earn points.

The 28 Degrees Mastercard and Bankwest Zero Platinum also have no overseas transaction fees. These cards do not award points, but they have no annual fees.
