Alaska Airlines recently merged its Mileage Plan loyalty program with HawaiianMiles, rebranding it to Atmos Rewards.

While the name has changed, you can still redeem points with Atmos Rewards for valuable award flights on around 25 different airlines. These include all Oneworld airlines, such as Qantas, as well as some niche partners like Aer Lingus, Icelandair, Starlux, Korean Air and Condor.

Atmos award tickets can be excellent value, particularly on short-haul and premium cabin redemptions. And there are no fuel surcharges when booking award tickets with most partner airlines – you’ll just pay a USD12.50 partner award fee.

Although it’s not that easy to earn Atmos Rewards points in Australia, you can buy them directly from the airline. Alaska Airlines even offers regular promotional deals on buying points. These bonuses are once again available to non-US residents.

Buying Atmos Rewards points

You can buy Atmos Rewards points (formerly Mileage Plan miles) on the Alaska Airlines website.

Points start at USD37.63 per thousand, before any discounts or bonus points. This price includes the U.S. federal excise tax. There is a purchase limit of 100,000 points per transaction (excluding bonus points).

There is an annual purchase limit of 150,000 points per member (excluding bonus points). Atmos Rewards waives this limit for members with Silver, Gold, Platinum or Titanium status.

Promotions with bonus points and discounts

Every few months, Alaska Airlines typically runs promotions offering a discount or bonus when you buy Atmos Rewards points.

However, these offers are targeted and can vary between accounts. Your offer may be for a different amount of bonus points than another Atmos Rewards member. It is also possible that, if the address listed on your account is outside of the USA, you might not be eligible for some offers.

These offers also may not be available to new Mileage Plan members. So, if you’re not already a member, sign up now to avoid missing out on the next promotion!

Past offers on buying Atmos Rewards points

The best ever offer we’ve seen on Atmos Rewards points was a bonus of up to 110% in September 2025.

Here is a list of the most recent past deals:

Redeeming Atmos Rewards points

You can redeem Atmos Rewards points on around 25 airlines. This includes all of the Oneworld alliance members:

Oneworld member airlines: Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, Fiji Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Oman Air, Qantas, Qatar Airways, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian, SriLankan Airlines.

You can also use Atmos Rewards to book award flights on the following non-Oneworld partner airlines:

  • Aer Lingus
  • Air Tahiti Nui
  • Condor
  • Hainan Airlines
  • Icelandair
  • Korean Air
  • Philippine Airlines (coming soon)
  • Porter Airlines
  • STARLUX Airlines

Unfortunately, Alaska Airlines no longer partners with Singapore Airlines or LATAM.

Award flight pricing

For travel on Alaska Airlines itself, Atmos Rewards uses dynamic award pricing. Redemptions on partner airlines are priced according to the partner airline award charts that take into account the region and distance you’re flying. That said, Alaska does sometimes use dynamic pricing for partner awards on Qatar Airways, Icelandair and Air Tahiti Nui.

For example, this is the partner airline award chart for travel to, from or within Australia in 2025:

The extensive list of partners and relatively low redemption costs make this a competitive program. Award flights are especially great value on routes under 1,500 miles including Sydney-Auckland and Brisbane-Queenstown.

There are no fuel or carrier surcharges except when redeeming points for Hainan Airlines, Icelandair or British Airways flights.

How to book award flights with Atmos Rewards points

Most Atmos awards can be booked on the Alaska Airlines website. If you can’t book online, you can call Alaska Airlines on on +1 (800) 252 7522. The Alaska Airlines call centre is open from 5am to midnight, California time. (It is closed during the evening in Australia.)

So far, this new program looks quite promising.

Now, if only Amex would add Atmos Rewards as a transfer partner 🙂

Unlikely, given it's a different trademark class.

What has so far gone under the radar is that they've largely moved to a revenue-based program. You still have the option to earn by distance/segments, but they're going to appeal to fewer people from next year due to the earn rate.

Just like many other programs, they primarily want you earning status through spend on co-branded credit cards and expensive revenue fares.

I read that you can chose: spend or segments or miles.

BUT you’re locked in to 1 of 3 methods for the year (changeable once a year thereafter).

Some of the Miles thresholds will increase next year but so have the benefits - mainly system wide upgrades across AS and HA.

Yes, that's correct, but there are now all sorts of disincentives for choosing segments or distance hidden in the T&Cs.

For example, you no longer get minimum miles or class of service bonuses if choosing distance.

I presume the (I think) unique feature of earning SCs on AS redemptions is being retained. May make lots of sense for the right flyer.

Yes, they would prefer customers to get the $395pa premium credit card and the 8 lounge passes that come with that.

Loss of free Wi-Fi (Starlink) on HA unless you're a member is disappointing.

Hopefully it's like BA and you don't need to book under that FF scheme to use it, and not like SQ.

Choose how you earn
A first for a global airline, choose how you earn points and status points on flights. Choose to earn based on how far you travel, how much you spend, or how frequently you fly. Status holders will continue earning bonus points based on their selection. If you change your mind, you have the freedom to change how you earn once each year.

With some of AS text not always 100% clear if about status or redeemable points. To use the word "points" as both a measure of status earning and the quantity for redeemable awards is confusing (as was "miles" for both).
For example BA use tier points for status and avios as the quantity for redeemable awards. QF have status credits and (redeemable) points. AA moved away from using the same word. Far less confusion.
