Welcome to our inaugural Airfare of the Week article!

Each week, this column will highlight a great Economy, Premium Economy, Business or First Class airfare that Australians can take advantage of. (You can read more about this new segment and detailed FAQs on the Australian Frequent Flyer forum!)

This week, lots of airlines are offering sharp travel deals for Black Friday and Cyber Monday. You’ll find many of these sales listed on the AFF forum. The one we’ve chosen to highlight in this column belongs to Hawaiian Airlines.

Until 2 December 2025, Hawaiian Airlines is offering round-trip Economy Class fares from Sydney to Honolulu from just AU$699.

Uniquely, with this sale, you can even add on flights to other Hawaiian destinations for just a few dollars extra. For example, you can fly from Sydney (SYD) to Kona (KOA) on Hawaii’s Big Island (via Honolulu) for just AU$706 return.

Hawaiian Airlines is a largely full-service airline with food, entertainment, a checked bag and standard seat selection included on tickets to/from Australia. Plus, you could earn enough points from this trip to book a Qantas Premium Economy flight across the Tasman!

Here are the full details of this great Hawaiian Airlines Economy Class airfare from Sydney to Kona…

Similar Hawaiian Airlines sale fares are also available from Sydney to Honolulu, Kahului, Lihue and Hilo.

You can book this fare on the Hawaiian Airlines website or the Alaska Airlines website.

Travel dates & fare rules

Here are the details of this airfare:

  • Book between 27 November – 2 December 2025
  • Travel between 18 January – 10 May 2026
  • Blackout dates: 21-26 February and 31 March – 2 April 2026
  • If you’re flying onwards from Honolulu to another island, you can add a stopover in Honolulu for no extra fare

On-board product

Hawaiian Airlines flies an Airbus A330 with a 2-4-2 Economy seating layout on its Sydney-Honolulu route. Inter-island flights are on Boeing 717s.

On the A330, Hawaiian also offers “Extra Comfort” seats with more legroom for a surcharge.

Earning points & status credits with this airfare

Although Hawaiian Airlines will join Oneworld on 22 April 2026, you won’t be able to earn Qantas Points or status credits when flying before this date. (It’s also not yet clear if you will be able to as soon as Hawaiian joins on 22 April, or if this will take a bit longer as it did when Oman Air joined Oneworld.)

If flying before Hawaiian Airlines joins Oneworld, you can earn Atmos Rewards points. This is the new, combined loyalty program of Hawaiian and Alaska Airlines.

These sale fares book into “Z” class, earning Atmos Rewards base points and status points at a rate of 100% of miles flown. For a return Economy itinerary from Sydney to Kona via Honolulu, you could expect to earn around 10,458 Atmos points.

For reference, it costs 7,500 Atmos points (plus fees & taxes) for a Qantas Economy reward flight of up to 1,500 miles in distance. Alternatively, Qantas Premium Economy flights up to 1,500 miles cost just 10,000 Atmos points (plus fees & taxes). This means, for example, that you could fly one-way from Sydney to Auckland in Qantas Premium Economy with the Atmos Rewards points you would earn from this airfare!
