Amex Shop Small Returns for 2020

Amex Shop Small Returns

The popular American Express Shop Small promotion is back from today, with a new promotion running until 31 August 2020. But this year’s offer is a bit different to previous years.

During the 2020 Amex Shop Small promotion, you can earn $5 cash back to your Amex card for spending at least $10 at participating small businesses. This offer can be used up to 10 times throughout the promotion, with a limit of once per store (both in-store and online).

To take part in this promotion, you first need to login to your Amex account and register your card for the Shop Small offer by 31 August. Then, simply spend at least $10 at any participating business to receive a $5 credit on your Amex account.

Online gift card purchases are excluded from this promotion, as are transactions processed by a third-party. For example, if you order Uber Eats from a restaurant participating in Shop Small, the purchase would be made through Uber Eats and would not be eligible for the credit.

You can see a full list of participating businesses and terms & conditions on the American Express website.

American Express runs Shop Small promotions each year. The campaigns are funded by American Express, which bears the full cost of providing the credits to cardholders (the participating small businesses do not pay for this).

During previous Shop Small promotions, Amex cardholders have been offered $10 credit for spending at least $20 at small businesses. This year’s offer of “spend $10 to get $5 back” seems less generous, but it can be used at up to 10 businesses instead of 5 previously. So the total maximum cashback available is still $50. At almost 3 months, this year’s promotion is also running for longer than usual.
