Oman Air Joining Oneworld Alliance on 30 June 2025

Oman Air is about to become the newest member of the Oneworld alliance, officially joining on 30 June 2025.

The Omani airline first expressed interest in joining Oneworld in 2021. The alliance then officially announced that Oman Air had been elected as a new member after its Annual General Meeting in 2022. The onboarding process was initially expected to be completed by 2024, but ultimately took a year longer than that.

Here’s what this all means for frequent flyers…

Points, status credits and perks when flying Oman Air

Qantas Frequent Flyer members have already been able to redeem Qantas Points for Oman Air flights in Economy and Business Class since October 2024. (Qantas temporarily disabled Business redemptions during June 2025 “to allow for technical requirements as part of Oman Air joining the oneworld alliance”, but these should be back soon.)

Once Oman Air is a full Oneworld alliance member, Qantas Frequent Flyer members will also earn points and status credits when flying with Oman Air on a “WY” flight number. Qantas hasn’t yet updated its website with a list of eligible fare classes for earning points and status credits, but we expect this to happen soon.

Note that you won’t earn Qantas Points or status credits on Oman Air codeshare flights operated by a non-Oneworld member airline.

Of course, you could also choose to credit Oman Air flights to any other Oneworld airline’s frequent flyer program.

You’ll also soon be able to redeem Qantas Points for Business Studio (First Class) seats on Oman Air, and as part of a Oneworld Classic Flight Reward booking.

And Oneworld Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald frequent flyers, including Qantas Silver, Gold, Platinum and Platinum One members, will be able to enjoy all the usual reciprocal Oneworld status benefits when flying with Oman Air. This includes lounge access for Qantas Gold, Platinum and Platinum One frequent flyers.

Oman Air Sindbad status just became more valuable

Sindbad Silver and Gold status is now much more valuable, because it also includes reciprocal status perks when flying across the entire Oneworld alliance.

However, Oman Air’s Sindbad program does not currently have a Platinum tier, or any other tier that’s equivalent to Oneworld Emerald status.

To earn Oman Air Sindbad status, you’d need to earn a minimum number of Tier points within a consecutive 12-month period:

• 500 Tier points for Silver status (Oneworld Ruby)
• 1,100 Tier points for Gold status (Oneworld Sapphire)

About Oman Air

Based in Muscat, Oman Air operates to around 40 destinations in the Middle East, Asia, Africa and Europe using a modern fleet of Boeing 787s and Boeing 737s. The airline’s wide-body fleet is fitted with Business Studio (First Class) cabins in addition to Business and Economy Class.

Its network isn’t quite as large as other major Middle Eastern airlines like Emirates or Qatar Airways. But Oman Air is widely regarded as a quality and reliable airline. Just beware that it sometimes uses narrow-body Boeing 737s without lie-flat Business seats for fairly long flights, including from Muscat to places like Kuala Lumpur and Munich.

Oman Air often has attractive airfares from Asia to Europe (via Muscat). It also has cheap Business Class fares from Australia to Europe with two stops via Southeast Asia and Muscat. When booking one of these itineraries, the flights between Australia and Southeast Asia are always on partner airlines like Qantas, Malaysia Airlines or Batik Air, as Oman Air doesn’t fly to Australia.

Oman Air currently operates three of its own lounges. In addition to an excellent lounge at its hub of Muscat International Airport (MCT), it has lounges in Bangkok and Salalah.

Qatar Airways sponsored Oman Air’s entry into the Oneworld alliance

When joining an alliance, airlines need a sponsor airline who is already part of that alliance. For Oman Air, this was Qatar Airways.

As the Chairman of oneworld, we look forward to welcoming Oman Air into our alliance as they will bring great benefits, allowing passengers to discover not just a new member with an excellent reputation, but a beautiful country,” former Qatar Airways CEO His Excellency Akbar Al Baker said in 2022.

Fiji Airways was the last airline to join the Oneworld alliance in April 2025. Before this, Alaska Airlines joined in 2021 and Royal Air Maroc became a member in 2020.

S7 Airlines, based in Russia, remains suspended as a Oneworld member since 2022.
