Our latest Airfare of the Week belongs to Turkish Airlines, which has round-trip Business Class fares from Sofia (SOF) to Adelaide (ADL) from AU$4,600. This also includes travel on Malaysia Airlines, although codesharing with Turkish Airlines.

Turkish Airlines is a member of Star Alliance, so you can earn points/miles, including status-qualifying points/miles, in a variety of Star Alliance programs. It could be useful if you travel to Europe often and are happy to “nest” flights in Europe, to get cheaper airfares.

Here are the full details of this fantastic Business Class airfare from Sofia to Adelaide…

Sample itinerary & pricing

You can book this fare on the Turkish Airlines website. The website search can be a bit finnicky at times, so we do recommend you find the preferred dates on Google Flights first.

Brisbane is also available for approximately $1,300 more, although booking an open-jaw itinerary that includes both Adelaide and Brisbane can reduce the cost.

Note that fares and availability are subject to change. This fare may not be available by the time you read this article, and you might need to be flexible with travel dates. We recommend booking ASAP to avoid disappointment!

Travel dates & fare rules

Here are the details of this airfare:

  • No minimum stay requirements
  • Maximum stay at the destination of 12 months
  • Free stopovers permitted in Istanbul and Kuala Lumpur on both the outbound and return

On-board product

On the flights between Sofia and Istanbul, you’ll fly on a Turkish Airlines narrowbody – either a Boeing 737 or an Airbus A320-family. These are all equipped with recliner seats in a 2-2 configuration.

Between Kuala Lumpur and Istanbul, Turkish Airlines flies a modern Airbus A350, with lie-flat seating in a staggered 1-2-1 configuration. The seats in each row alternate between being closer to the aisle, or more enclosed.

Malaysia Airlines now flies its modern Airbus A330neo on the Kuala Lumpur-Adelaide route, with lie-flat Business Suites in a 1-2-1 layout.

Earning points & status credits with this airfare

This fare books into “K” class. As Turkish Airlines is a member of Star Alliance, you could earn points and status credits for this airfare in programs including:

  • Air Canada Aeroplan
  • Turkish Airlines Miles & Smiles
  • United Airlines MileagePlus
  • Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer

For example, if you credited these flights to Turkish Airlines Miles & Smiles, you could earn at least 16,766 miles. Alternatively, you could earn 13,763 miles/points with Air Canada Aeroplan, United Airlines MileagePlus or Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer.

Note that despite Turkish Airlines having a codeshare agreement with Malaysia Airlines, it doesn’t appear you can earn anything for the flights between Kuala Lumpur and Adelaide, including with Turkish Airlines Miles & Smiles. You also won’t be able to earn anything in a Oneworld program such as Qantas Frequent Flyer for the Malaysia Airlines flights, as they’re marketed by Turkish Airlines.
