Airfare of the Week: Etihad Business Class Australia-Europe from $3,525 Return

Our latest Airfare of the Week belongs to Etihad Airways, which has round-trip Business Class fares from Sydney (SYD) and Melbourne (MEL) to Athens (ATH) and Istanbul (IST) from AUD3,525 (hat-tip to AFF users aaa99 and duffa). There’s also plenty of discounted fares to other cities in Central and Western Europe.

Obviously, this fare is this cheap due to issues affecting air travel through the Middle East. Purchase this fare at your own risk! Etihad has put in place a waiver on change fees for travel booked from 6 March 2026 and flown up to 31 March 2027, however fare differences still apply – and Etihad is notoriously difficult with flight changes/cancellations.

While Etihad isn’t a member of an alliance, it does have useful partnerships including with Air Canada and American Airlines.

This price is for Etihad’s “Business Value” fare, which is an unbundled Business Class fare that doesn’t come with lounge access and complimentary seat selection. The Business Comfort fare does come with lounge access and seat selection. For Sydney – Athens return, you’ll pay $624 extra.

Here are the full details of this great Business Class airfare from Australia to Europe…

Sample itinerary & pricing

You can book this fare on the Etihad website. However, it is slightly cheaper to book via some OTAs.

Similar prices are also available to Istanbul (IST), with flights to Central and Western Europe approximately ~$4,200 return.

You can also fly one-way to Athens/Istanbul for ~$2,100, or construct a multi-city itinerary. For example, you can fly from Sydney – Munich, and then Athens – Sydney for ~$3,800.

Note that fares and availability are subject to change. This fare may not be available by the time you read this article, and you might need to be flexible with travel dates. Also, check your travel insurance to see whether you’ll be covered if you book this itinerary, consdiering the conflict in the Middle East.

Travel dates & fare rules

Here are the details of this airfare:

  • Minimum stay of two days after arrival
  • Maximum stay of four months
  • Travel must commence on/after 2 April 2026 and on/before 14 June 2026.

On-board product

Etihad have an Airbus A350-1000 scheduled on the Sydney – Abu Dhabi flights, which come with modern lie-flat Business Class suites. From Melbourne, you’ll get a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, equipped with a very similar seat. These are both in a 1-2-1 configuration, and are some of the best Business Class seats available departing Australia.

If you’re flying into Athens, you’ll be on an Airbus A321neo with recliner Business Class seats in a 2-2 layout. Note that this is a different aircraft to the A321neoLR, which has lie-flat seats in a 1-1 configuration.

Flights into other parts of Europe are on a mixture of aircraft, although most will be equipped with lie-flat seats. Just try to avoid any Wamos Air A330s!

If you choose to purchase a fare with lounge access, you can enjoy the modern Etihad Business Lounge at Abu Dhabi.

Earning points & status credits with this airfare

This fare, regardless of whether you book Business Value or Comfort, books into “P” class. Etihad partners with some useful airline programs, allowing you to earn points with the following:

  • Air Canada Aeroplan
  • American Airlines AAdvantage
  • Air France/KLM Flying Blue
  • Etihad Guest

For example, if you credited flights from Sydney to Athens to Etihad Guest, you’ll earn at least 19,046 Etihad Guest miles.

You could also credit to Air Canada Aeroplan or American Airlines AAdvantage, although note that these miles are not status-qualifying.
