Qantas points can now be earned for booking accommodation through Airbnb!

To ensure you earn points, you’ll need to use the Airbnb link on the Qantas website and be logged into your Qantas Frequent Flyer account at the time of booking. Points will be credited to your account within 8 weeks after your stay.

Our members are largely thrilled with the new partnership.

Fantastic announcement that is sure to add more clout for booking with Airbnb over conventional hotels, particularly when one is seeking self catering options which can be very limited and over priced on hotel booking websites.

Airbnb is basically the “Uber” of accommodation. The website allows “hosts” to rent out spare rooms, apartments and even entire houses to guests for short periods. The platform has become increasingly popular over recent years, with many now viewing Airbnb as a very viable alternative to hotels.

Airbnb properties are not only often cheaper than hotels, but there are some unique experiences to be had…

Such examples of unique Airbnb experiences’ include Train Carriages converted into cottages in the Hunter valley vineyards and farm stays in Victoria’s High Country. With Qantas points now available on Airbnb stays, the decision to book with Airbnb is even more compelling.

Not everyone is so happy with the new partnership. The changes have riled up traditional hotel operators, who are unhappy that the deal may take business away from them. Some members are also concerned that Airbnb pricing may increase to cover the cost of the Qantas points.

This is likely to drive up prices of Airbnb, as the property owners will have to pay for the points you get. Also, the more ‘distributors’ get their hands on the product, the more the service providers’ compliance costs will increase and they will inevitably get passed on as well.

But so far our members’ experiences with the new partnership have been positive:

News came out just as I was looking for somewhere to stay in Oslo, so hopefully that goes through. That Oslo booking was coming up cheaper via the QF link then from the normal search on airbnb.

Qantas points continue to be earned for hotel bookings made through the Qantas website. All hotel bookings earn 3 points per dollar, or triple the rate at which Airbnb bookings earn points.
