There are a range of new credit card sign-up deals available in July 2019. In addition, Qantas is this month offering extra bonus points to anyone taking out a new Qantas-branded credit card for the first time. Until 31 July 2019, new Qantas cardholders can earn an extra 20,000 Qantas points on top of the usual sign-up bonus!
Credit card sign-up bonuses are one of the easiest ways to accumulate frequent flyer points quickly and relatively cheaply! By applying for a credit card and paying the annual fee, you can earn tens of thousands of frequent flyer points towards your next trip.
If you’re thinking about applying for a new credit card, why not take advantage of these great sign-up deals and top up your frequent flyer points? To help you out, here is a selection of the top 5 Australian credit card sign-up deals for July 2019:
1. Amex Westpac Altitude Black bundle (Altitude Velocity) – 120,000 Velocity points + 75 status credits
Westpac recently launched a new Altitude Velocity rewards program. It costs $50/year to opt-in to Altitude Velocity and earn Velocity points (rather than earning Altitude points), but you’ll receive a couple of Economy X upgrades and lounge passes each year. With the current sign-up offer, you’ll also earn 120,000 Velocity points and 75 Virgin Australia status credits with the Amex Westpac Altitude Black bundle when opting-in to Altitude Velocity! That’s enough Velocity points for a return Virgin Australia Business flight from Sydney or Melbourne to Hong Kong.
To receive the full bonus points, you would need to spend at least $4,000 on the MasterCard and $3,000 on the Amex card within 90 days of approval. To receive the full amount of bonus status credits, you would also need to spend an additional $6,000 on your MasterCard within the first year.
2. Qantas Premier Platinum – 120,000 Qantas points
One of the best credit card sign-up deals for June 2019 is a brand new offer on the Qantas Premier Platinum card. You can earn up to 120,000 bonus Qantas Frequent Flyer points by spending at least $1,500 per month on your new card for the first six months. You’ll earn 20,000 points for each month that this target is met. This card normally has a $299 annual fee, but during this promotion it is being reduced to $199 for the first year. This offer expires on 31 October 2019.
With the extra 20,000 Qantas points on offer this month for new Qantas cardholders, that would be enough points to fly around the world in Economy (with some leftovers)!
The Qantas Premier Titanium card is still offering an even higher bonus of 150,000 Qantas points until 28 August 2019, but this card has a whopping $1,200 annual fee!
3. Amex Westpac Altitude Black bundle (Altitude Qantas) – 120,000 Qantas points
You can also earn 120,000 bonus Qantas points this month with the Westpac Altitude Black Amex bundle, when opting in to Altitude Qantas rewards. You’ll earn a sign-up bonus of 80,000 Qantas points for the Westpac Altitude Black MasterCard, plus an additional 40,000 points with the Amex version of this card added on. The combined annual fee for both cards is $499, including a $50 fee to opt-in to Altitude Qantas rewards. This offer expires on 15 October 2019.
4. Amex Velocity Platinum – 100,000 Velocity points
American Express currently has an excellent deal available on its Amex Velocity Platinum card. You’ll earn 25,000 Velocity points each month that you spend at least $1,000 on the card for the first 4 months. That’s a maximum bonus of 100,000 Velocity points, which is enough for a return Economy ticket or one-way Business ticket to Los Angeles on Virgin Australia (plus taxes & carrier charges). This card has a $375 annual fee but comes with a complimentary return Virgin Australia domestic flight each year. This offer has been extended until 15 July 2019.
5. ANZ Frequent Flyer Black – 100,000 Qantas points
ANZ Bank continues to offer 100,000 bonus Qantas Frequent Flyer points with its Frequent Flyer Black card. To receive the bonus sign-up points, you would need to spend at least $4,000 on the card within 3 months. This card has a $425 annual fee, which is currently being reduced to $225 in the first year. No expiry date is listed for this offer.
Another ANZ offer available this month which might be of interest is 40,000 bonus Velocity points with the ANZ Rewards Travel Adventures card. This product has a $225 annual fee but comes with a complimentary return Virgin Australia flight and two airport lounge passes every year. It also has no foreign transaction fees.
Beware that most banks have credit card exclusion periods whereby bonus points are not awarded to customers that have previously held a card with that bank in the past 12-18 months.
