Double SC October 2018 [Book by Oct 16, Travel until June 2019]

I booked a double status credit flight from QANTAS Business back in June and then needed to change the dates to be told that I would lose the DSC despite the fact that the flights would be within the specified period.

I note the following condition in the T&Cs for the current promotion
'If you change or cancel your initial qualifying booking and/or travel is completed outside the promotional period, this bonus offer will not apply.'

Does this condition state that if I book a flight and then wish to change the departure date, or a flight date during the travel or the return date, the DSC will be lost, even if the flights are all within the specified period?

Can this be clarified with QANTAS ASAP? Please?

It will arrive.

Just got it. Usual story - always want to be the first to know but usually the last...... ;)

Further question - if I book through a travel agent within the promo window, does the ticket also have to be issued by the promo end date?

this should be a FAQ. Seriously.

much experience has found there is NO issue with changing dates within the promotion period AS LONG AS the booking is not cancelled or reissued (ie: the PNR/booking ref is unchanged).

If you just change dates on the existing booking it should be fine.

I think the wording in the T&C, wich QF never bother to change, is misleading and unclear (there's a shock).

I think they should just have said if the booking is cancelled, or reissued, or flights are booked to outside the promotion period, then DSC will not apply.

Still, it's up to you as to what you decide to do. If it would make you feel more comfortable, why not clarify with QF yourself - though they will just read that wording ....

i've registered for this offer. If I book with American Express using the $450 Qantas travel credit on my Qantas Amex Ultimate Card will I receive the double status credits? Or do the flights have to be booked with Qantas directly?

I have sent the following email to QANTAS Frequent Flyer and await their reply

Hi there

I am writing regarding the current October 2018 double status credits offer.

I note that in the Terms and Conditions, the following appears: 'If you change or cancel your initial qualifying booking and/or travel is completed outside the promotional period, this bonus offer will not apply.’

In June 2018, I received an offer from QANTAS Business for 50% additional status credits with the following condition: 'If you change or cancel your initial qualifying booking and/or travel is completed outside the promotional period, this bonus offer will not apply.'

I booked a return flight to Toronto and New York from Melbourne in Premium Economy and had to change the date of departure and return, all within the eligible time period of June 12 and August 31 2018. I was told unequivocally that I would lose the 50 per cent bonus SCs. The booking number was xx_xx_. Consequently, I cancelled the flight as I was able to book a cheaper flight for the dates that I intended to fly and would get much the same in SCs.

Can you please clarify the impact of the condition for the current DSC promotion, as outlined above.

Does this condition state that if I book a flight and then wish to change the departure date, or a flight date during the travel or the return date, the DSC will be lost, even if the flights are all within the specified period of October 23 2018 to 30 June 2019?

As this offer closes on October 16, I would appreciate an early reply.

Regards

I will let the list know the reply when it is received.

Not trying to seem rude here but...

I'm sorry how is this relevant to your query? Yes, it had the same T&C but you cancelled the flight so... this seems to confuse the query for anyone reading?

Or am *I* misreading/misunderstanding? if so I apologise.

I cancelled the flight after I was told that if I changed the date of departure and return, I would lose the 50% SC bonus, despite remaining within the targeted period. I had to changer the date so the bonus was going to be lost. I found a far cheaper return flight with another One World carrier even with the $400 penalty charged by QANTAS.

I would not have cancelled the flight if I could have changed the dates without losing the bonus.

yes, I understand that.

but in terms of the CURRENT query you've made, it's background but not stricty relevant because you chose to cancel. My point is it doesn't add anything to the question and just confuses the issue imho.

Again I'm not trying to be a rude nitpicker type jerk here (I promise :) ) ... just pointng out that, to me anyway, the story about the June booking doesn't actually add anything to your query which is about clarifying the flight change thing. And also the way it reads it could also be interpreted as "I found a cheaper flight that would give me about the same SC anyway so I cancelled" ... either way the lpoint is you had a booking and cancelled it.. on a +50% SC offer... it's just going to confuse the reader IMHO.

I'm trying to be constructive here though it may not seem it. I honestly mean no offence.

I imagine a QF CSR reading your query will parrot back the T&C as you have been told before.

and that's what they say. Many experiences of previous applications of DSC have proved that changing flights without cancelling the booking itself to change, ie just a simple date change, will NOT stop DSC from being awarded.

Anyway I hope you get the answer you want which is more important than my attempt at constructive criticism :) I'll shush now :D

Who told you that you would lose the 50% bonus SCs if you still flew inside the promotion period? Qantas customer care? You were misinformed. Booking is still eligible for bonus SCs if change remains within promotion period.

Oh Qantas how you love to tease the masses.

May just buy 3-4 vouchers for good luck. ;)

am i missing something here? does booking a later flight with the voucher purchased during the DSC period also grant DSC? i thought they patched it since last DSC?

also - not sure if it helps but i made a booking on the last day of Feb DSC this year. Got the dates wrong but changed within 24 hours - however when the change was made it was no longer during the DSC period. I was told by qff online that changing would not have impacted the booking as the DSC promotion is based off when you initially make the booking - therefore i am under the impression that if the PNR is the same and you make a valid change, then you should still receive DSC for that PNR.

Again, not sure if it's relevant to what you guys were discussing and not sure if they've since changed the T&C's since.

Damn, I was so happy to see this promo so I booked flight starlight away but forgot to register for the offer!
I did register straight after the booking...
Do you think is ok if booking and registration done the same day?

Without overdiscussing gift vouchers I can't see any changes in the terms and conditions to stop them from earning double SCs.

I can also confirm that any flights outside the promotion period do not earn double SCs so one would assume any changes will be treated the same. If your experience is different then best keep quiet.

I *just* booked a whole bunch of flights a couple of days ago, which fall within the eligible travel window.

Thinking about cancelling those flights and rebooking them so I can get in on this promotion. Looking at the T&Cs, there doesn't seem to be anything to prevent this?

"Flight gift vouchers purchased, but not redeemed for an eligible flight booking during the promotion period will not earn double Status Credits." - this doesn't seem to prevent me from cancelling the fights I booked, and then using the vouchers from those cancellations to purchase new flights. Or am I getting that wrong?

Make sure you get cash back NOT Credits as they will have the same PNR as the original bookings, made out side of the promotional period so they would NOT be eligible for DSC.

Make sure the cost of cancelling the current tickets is not too costly and that you can get the same price on the new flights then yes go for it. Make sure you are registered for the promo. And Make sure you get Cash Back NOT credits.

Unless you don't want to avoid phone calls etc. you need a PNR generated within the booking period of this promotion. If you cancel, you still keep those 'old' voucher PNRs.

As per above, cancel for cash if you are going to do this and not a voucher. So get a brand new PNR that meets the conditions. Don’t use the same PNR which is what happens when you do as per above.

We made a new booking using vouchers from the previous promo. So either way we should be sweet. Looking forward to getting to NZ again.

The DSC are based on the dates the flights are BOOKED

1. You can use your *vouchers to book during the eligible booking period
2. You will need to phone to have the DSC applied
3. You will need to HUACA if you get the NZ call centre

This has been successful in past promotions, but takes a substantial amount of pressure to achieve success.
