I believe you are correct. I had the same vague notion in my head and I could have sworn I had read it in this thread before but couldn't find the posts!
Thank you for taking the time, happy travels!
It has definitely been discussed in threads for previous DSC promos. You might want to search a bit through them.

Just to close the loop with the invol reroute and missing credits. I waited for over a week and took a deep breath and called up. I had a reference number. Sounded like nothing had been acted on. Anyway, after a short delay the operator advised that the original booking would stand and the credits corrected within the day. Logged on a while later and it was a little worrying seeing credits kind of disappearing but not reappearing. Logged in just now and order has been restored. All up to date now.

A question to the wise ones about getting [SYD - 2*Europe - 2*USA - SYD] booked through QF so I can use my GV purchased during the DSC sales period. I can see my preferred routing through Skyscanner and ITA Matrix but when I enter the same routing on the Qantas website, all I get are these apologies. Is this something where I can call the Qantas sales number and get them to redeem the GV for this routing (and preferably without a call centre fee)?
I've tried this now many times enough over couple of weeks and using different dates (across three months) to rule out any fleeting issues on the QF site. Their system seems not be able to handle this kind of a routing.

The little twist to this is that my better half would travel the first leg (SYD-LHR) a week earlier than me, then we'll travel together. I wonder if QF is able to ticket a 2 pax GV using this?

I don't think GVs can be used for multi-city flights, at least online. Can't hurt to call and ask if it can be done by an agent.
The itinerary itself looks like one the multi-city engine wouldn't cope with anyway - irrespective of payment method. It's pretty limited in my experience.

So interesting experience today.

I called twice about 2 sets of flights on 2 days to get credited. Earlier today I spoke to an agent I am not sure where she was but sounded like an AU or NZ accent.. prob aus to be honest. Anyway she was great said flights would be credited and stuff no issues.. well the first set of flights were but the flights on the 2nd day were not.. so I gave it like 5 hours and figured she perhaps missed that 2nd date I gave so called back. Got to Manilla. Agent was fine though very pedantic and actually asked me "There were 3 DSC promotions - which one was this registered for?" luckily I had my bookings and DSC email in front of me so I was all organised to answer the October one. Interestingly she said she could see my August registration, but did not indicate she could see my Feb or Oct one but... while it took about twice as long, the DSC's were posted without further question or comment (delayed bookings).

Very happy camper to get the extra 220 SC today for about 10min total on the phone :)

GV booking DSCs from this promo have posted for me within 48 hours this past week. No problems so far. A couple more to come.

I am by no means an expert. From your post a few points but may be wrong.
  • It looks like you are doing around the world trip, there are OW rules for this (min 3 carriers) so that that is maybe why the QF ITS is having issues, have you tried an AY option.
  • In general, I am of the belief a single GV can only be used for a single traveller but not 100% sure, however there are ways this can be over come.
  • I assume you have registered both PAX for the DSC at the time of the offer, if not only registered PAX will get the DSCs.
  • @kermatu is on the money as GV cannot be redeemed for multi city online, you will have to call QF.
All the best.

Just to clarify my above post (rather than edit)... the flights that did not credit were taken in November, so 8 weeks were up. And, neither agent preempted me with that line which was a relief.

After calling QF sales I can now answer my own question. For routing SYD - LHR - HEL - SFO - SYD the multi-city booking engine brings up an error "We are unable to find recommendations for your search. (#7190-NFA) No fares can be found for your selected itinerary. Select new dates and/or destinations and search again." If I switch from SFO to LAX, it goes through well and I could book it.
According to the lovely lady at the sales their fares from Europe to US are limited to LAX (and I can also get the engine quote HEL - NYC - SYD) but SFO is excluded. She could have sold me a RTW ticket but that'd be much more expensive so not worth it when Skyscanner and travel agents can compose the itinerary at a good price.
Well, it just means the inability to use a DSC GV for this booking. It would have given a nice topup to the SC's from the trip.

Travelled Thursday - Saturday, DSCs for all 5 flights credited Monday afternoon.

Now to chase QF for original routing credit.
