Re: Velocity Frequent Flyer Status Match Promotion

I'll see you in the Lounge :D

My first VA/DJ flight will be MEL-NTL in Oct :)

I honestly never thought I'd do it! I have been fed up with QF and have come close, but it is the VA positives that have brought me here! :)

My first trip will be a status run too! I'm going via Brisbane on a premium booking!!!

You might want to read the rules carefully. You will be awarded the exact same SC's as if you'd flown direct. On VA SC's are awarded Origin to destination (although the "by sector" rule still applies to many partners). You may want to rejig that as a direct fight is you're chasing the SCs!

Maybe its a pie run, given they are served on the MEL-BNE leg but not MEL-NTL?

Re: Velocity Frequent Flyer Status Match Promotion

Well that's it. I am finally making the move.

I am a long time WP QF and have become more and more annoyed with the QF program - but until now, not enough to jump ship. I have 6 months left in my QF year and have already made Platinum so will remain so until 2013. I was still booking QF as I would like the LTG. However, if my status match comes through - I will give DJ a shot for a few months and see how I like it.

Game on.

Re: Tier Matching at DJ

What date were you given? Still deciding whether to seek my match via email or head out to Syd T2 tomorrow pm:shock:

Temporary card says 31 October. I still haven't checked the website. But the more I think about it, that has to be generic so no doubt it will translate over as August.

Re: Velocity Frequent Flyer Status Match Promotion

Glad I missed out on the last status match!

Walked into the MEL VA Lounge today to check it out, and was pleasantly surprised:
1) To see them matching status on the spot; and
2) To see Keith009 behind the desk!

Under 5 minutes and I had my temporary Virgin Platinum card. Very smooth, very efficient. New lounge looks great (not too clinical IMO) and the Platinum benefits look pretty good too. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

Re: Velocity Frequent Flyer Status Match Promotion

How long would a status match last? Like, if matched today - when would Platinum expire?

Re: Velocity Frequent Flyer Status Match Promotion

Taken the plunge and both mrsdrron and I have sent of the emails.
She received the automatic reply immediately.
I on the other hand got a failure notice so resent it.45 minutes later got the reply.Maybe they dont like AA.

Re: Velocity Frequent Flyer Status Match Promotion

Amazing how all the ones bagging the absolute cough out of Virgin last week, now think its the ducks guts, and are running around flashing all the Platinum cards. Wonder how many will actually fly Virgin, and how many will just use the any time access, and continue to fly QF.
Yes I am a bit annoyed at the influx, and feel the lounges will now be overcrowded and noisy, just like QF club was/is. I also believe that with all these platinums, the any time access will dissapear, as it was always on a "space available" basis, and there wont be much space available now will there?
Regardless, I am but a small fish, and my annoyance is insignificant, I can fully understand why Virgin have done it, and as much as I hate the fact that some of the most snobby, rude aroogant coughs I have ever met have been struuting their stuff with QF Platinum cards, may now be looking down their long upturned noses at me in the lounge, I realise that is what had to happen to mmake Virgin competitive. I hope the real snotty ones stay and we only get the friendly nice people such as those here on AFF :)

So when is QF going to do a status match, so we can go to a quiet lounge, as it appears all their status pax are now with DJ?

New Virgin Frequent flyer status match

I just heard that Virgin will match your current frequent flyer status and also give your partner the same status. Has anyone else heard this. If this is true then it is very tempting to swap alliegances :)

Why? I got the status match to gold last time and has no problem getting matched to platinum yesterday :)

Now the dust has settled from Day 1, whilst VA has achieved the first hurdle (getting us signed up), it is the easiest. They now have the hardest job - getting pax to actually jump ship and change the habits we have formed (some over decades of travel).

For me, their timing was good. Only 70 SC's short of Gold re-qual, so once I've done them next month, I'll have the time, inclination and energy to devote to VA Gold. Perfect to have my membership years 6 months apart.

Out of interest, if you were compd gold last year, did that have any significant impact on your flying habits?

Damn you iphone and fat fingers. Sent from my iphone and AFF app :))

I would assume not, as the fact that you are still qf platinum and dont have enough dj status to automatically get platinum.
Just an observation.

I would suggest waiting for an answer rather than assuming one, given Platinum is not yet 24 hours old it did not make sense to shoot for more than 500 SCs when there is more than just QF and DJ to credit to, why keep all you eggs in one basket or wear handcuffs?

Oh dear!I must reconsider.I certainly dont want to visit a Lounge where I am greeted by the angry stares of the disgruntled.Give me the rude, arrogant Bs any day.I can handle them easily.

you're not the first to state this about anytime access. I think this type of thinking misses a major part of reality. Why? Why would someone who is QF Plat and still flying with QF use The Lounge when they have access to the QP. The point of anytime access is to allow you to use The Lounge when you don't have lounge access with the other airline. Anyone who continues to fly with QF are going to keep their QP access and will soon drop off the DJ radar.

As for disappearing because of the space available part. That should actually protect anytime access because Virgin will be able to turn away those using anytime access if space is not available.
