I thought it was pretty good in comparison. The 777 cabin is nowhere near as quiet as the A380 business and first sections. I flew QF A380 from London earlier in the year in F. It was very very nice but I hear Singapore First is better. The VA cabin had this neat trick of matching the moods at certain times of day, so at sunset the lighting changed appropriately and at night the whole roof of the cabin became a simulated starfield. The staff are very very friendly, probably more fun than the QF ones. But I've had great FA's on QF, so they are good too. The seats on the VA 777 seemed a little narrow, and the choice of movies was nowhere near up to Qantas' range.

Still, it was very pleasant and I would have no problems flying them again. They are cheaper generally for J flights as well.

Thanks for the TR - when they hook up with SQ formally including points/status & hopefully all the way with *A, this QFF will be very happy to jump over :D

A quick tip for any QF Golds or Plats who missed out on the status match promotion due to not applying before it expired - apologies if a tale like mine has already been posted, I don't feel like reading back through 87 pages of posts to find out :):

I'm QFF WP and technically missed out on applying for the VA status match promotion due to simply not being aware of it - hadn't been on AFF in a while, and only found out about the promotion after it ended.

I thought I mind as well try my luck anyway - figured it couldn't hurt - and e-mailed the requested details to the promo e-mail address about a week late. Got an instant auto-reply saying "sorry, the promotion is closed". Continuing with the "it can't hurt to try" line of thinking, I then sent a "manual" status match request to VA via the regular old feedback form on the Velocity Rewards website. I didn't mention the status match promo in my "manual" request, I just asked for a status match and briefly explained why I thought it was in VA's best interests to grant me one :)

Lo and behold, a week or two later an e-mail lands in my inbox saying I'd been status matched to VA Platinum for the next 12 months :)

I'm not sure if the status match was due to the original (late) e-mail sent to the promo e-mail address or the "manual" request via the Velocity Rewards feedback form, but either way one of them worked. I do suspect, however, that VA decided to process my request via the promo e-mail account despite it being late, as my "manual" request did not include any proof that I was in fact QFF WP (whereas my e-mail to the promo e-mail address did - scan of my QFF card) and I wasn't asked for any additional proof before the status match was granted.

Anyway, the moral of the story: if you're QFF Gold or Plat and missed out on the promo, you might want to try sending an e-mail to the promo e-mail address / submitting a request via the Velocity Rewards website anyway - "it can't hurt" to try and you might just have the same luck I did!

but for any future posters t this thread that try the above steps and it doesn’t work out, please don’t whine about it, as it is 'officially' closed.

The whining about missing out went on for months last time. I thought it’d never end… :p

DJ SG pack turned up this week. If I'd left it until I'd hit WP with QF I would have missed out.

Now with some time left until the end of my QF year and nothing to gain by flying QF I will give DJ another go. Lounge access makes a huge difference to me. A smart promotion but I don't know what it has cost. I have talked to quite a few flyers who have 'converted' to DJ this way though. The QF industrial action will be pushing more their way too.

I did not gain QF WP until mid trip 12th October.
I just kept sending emails to Virgin asking if I could wait and submit mid trip.
They eventually sent an email saying I had 2 weeks to respond with proof of status. Luckily that coincided with gaining WP.

Still waiting for welcome pack however (in fact still have no VV card at all except for a paper print of my original join in August).

Anecdotal - a friend FTer who was in Australia briefly, said in some mall (unidentified) in Sydney there was a VA booth and he walked up and got a status match (assume to AAdv EXP as he doesn't have QF status, or possibly *A status - UA?).

No idea what mall.

I am guesting Westfield Sydney city as mentioned;)

What have I done... ;-)

Anyone have any thoughts as to whether Virgin will be running another status match promo any time soon. I jumped a level with QFF a month or so after the last cut off and am keen to progress with Velocity
