Re: New Virgin Frequent flyer status match

I just heard that Virgin will match your current frequent flyer status and also give your partner the same status. Has anyone else heard this. If this is true then it is very tempting to swap alliegances :)

Hi Maureeng.
Our Status Match Promotion is just that, to match your status.
There is no giving your partner status as well unfortunately.
You may have misheard that one of the benefits of being a Platinum member is that should you earn an 1500 SC's in a member benefit period, we would provide you a "Companion Gold" for you to gift to your partner etc.

Visit our website here for more info

Regardless, I am but a small fish, and my annoyance is insignificant, I can fully understand why Virgin have done it, and as much as I hate the fact that some of the most snobby, rude aroogant coughs I have ever met have been struuting their stuff with QF Platinum cards, may now be looking down their long upturned noses at me in the lounge, I realise that is what had to happen to mmake Virgin competitive. I hope the real snotty ones stay and we only get the friendly nice people such as those here on AFF :)
No, those ride arrogant ones will stay with QF, the nice ones have come across. Will also give more opportunity for members to meet up in The Lounge :D

Re: Velocity Frequent Flyer Status Match Promotion

Oh dear!I must reconsider.I certainly dont want to visit a Lounge where I am greeted by the angry stares of the disgruntled.Give me the rude, arrogant Bs any day.I can handle them easily.

As I said, Im a small fish, and BTW, Im not one to stare, and be angry, so dont worry about me ;)

Just expressing free speech on a forum

Im not disgruntled either, because I can see the direction Virgin is headed, and agree this is a very smart move. I also consider them to be the best all round value for my travel needs.
Surely you know the type to which I refer. If you dont have a suit and tie on (I dont even own a tie), then they glare at you, and just eyeball you with the death stare "How dare you enter my exclusive domain". I am sure those that contribute here are not that type, as they actually communicate and share ideas.

Re: Velocity Frequent Flyer Status Match Promotion

Just sent in my email. Currently Gold with QFF, but will get Platinum on Thursday. I thought I'd better get in, just in case the offer closed, but if it's still open when my status updates with QFF, I might pop into the Melbourne lounge and see if I can bumped to Platinum instead.

Re: Velocity Frequent Flyer Status Match Promotion

Out of interest, if you were compd gold last year, did that have any significant impact on your flying habits?

Nope, I haven't actually had a domestic flight since I got the status match, that's just the way the wind blows with my job. However I will now do all that I can to direct my (domestic) flying towards Virgin (and my international where they can give me the routes I need and once I've renewed QF Gold, which I've already done through to Nov '12).

Re: Velocity Frequent Flyer Status Match Promotion

Amazing how all the ones bagging the absolute cough out of Virgin last week, now think its the ducks guts, and are running around flashing all the Platinum cards. Wonder how many will actually fly Virgin, and how many will just use the any time access, and continue to fly QF.
Yes I am a bit annoyed at the influx, and feel the lounges will now be overcrowded and noisy, just like QF club was/is. I also believe that with all these platinums, the any time access will dissapear, as it was always on a "space available" basis, and there wont be much space available now will there?
Regardless, I am but a small fish, and my annoyance is insignificant, I can fully understand why Virgin have done it, and as much as I hate the fact that some of the most snobby, rude aroogant coughs I have ever met have been struuting their stuff with QF Platinum cards, may now be looking down their long upturned noses at me in the lounge, I realise that is what had to happen to mmake Virgin competitive. So when is QF going to do a status match, so we can go to a quiet lounge, as it appears all their status pax are now with DJ?
Why don't you say what you mean?

Now you have vented your spleen can we go back to a reasonable discussion. I'm tempted to ask, but won't, 'how many of the most snobby, rude aroogant coughs I have ever met have been struuting their stuff with QF Platinum cards' have you ever met :!:

What about all the really nice helpful ones that frequent this and other web sites :?:

Damn you iphone and fat fingers. Sent from my iphone and AFF app :))
A moderate amount.

A moderate amount.

1. I have met quite a few arrogant coughs in the QF Club, and feel unwelcome, even though I quietly sit and do my work, and occasionally grab a drink. Even at one point asking one guy "What are you glaring at?" to which he turned his nose up and trotted off. Im not a suit, but Im not a slob, I am always reasonably dressed, and never wear Singlets, thongs, or Tshirts etc, its always dress pants and a button up shirt, so I wouldn't say Im a trashy bloke either.
2. Read the other post from me about two posts after the one you quoted, being appreciative of the information and ideas shared on here by those Platinums who are obviously great people with similar goals to me. That being to maximise the benefits we can get out of the system. Thats why I bothered to pay the money and become a paid subscriber to this site.
If you want to hang cough on me and my posts, read them all before you go on your tirade.
I am not Platinum,. never will be because I simply never get close enough. so the whole Platinum thing does not bother me, but the Wanker attitude obviously comes with the territory and as stated above by me, the people on here who contribute and help others are obviously not the type to which I refer.
You can draw your own conclusions, but I cant be any clearer.

Back on topic though, it seems the amount of use that compd status gets varies greatkly, that was one of my initial questions, so that one has been answered.

More than anything this is so true. I have had many experiences of this, even with J seating on the plane, I was asked who had paid my ticket as I didn't look the type to fly business. :-| For me it's either button on polo shirt, with shorts or pants. I think it's great I get to work in casual clothes.

The QF J lounge, and to a smaller extent to QP do seem to frown on me being there sometimes, but I have never felt anything other than welcomed in a VA lounge. Hopefully it stays that way.

To use your words: No one is 'hanging cough on you' I am just offering an alternate view and there was never even a hint of a tirade.

From where I'm sitting I have to say that what you are seeing in the QP and commenting on is just a reflection of real life. There are a few people who are as you say however they are in the minority and get what they deserve and that is to be ignored.

Time to move back to the topic. ;)

ps When possible I wear a tie once per year perhaps. A few more than that this year but mainly to funerals :!:

For the record I was status matched last time, my DJ status:

dj.jpg
and my QF status:

Current Status: Platinum
Status reassessment will occur: 31 Oct 2011
Status credits earned from 01 Nov 2010: 1,480

I will hit LTG in the next 12 months for QF so keeping Plat at DJ wont be too much of an issue !

I love those guys, even if I admit to wearing a suit and tie on occasion, they are great fun to mess with. As a first note based on my experiences in SYD with the QP and J Lounge, I think you find vastly more of them in the QP. In general, the J lounge people are much more down to earth and accepting. I sometimes think it is something to do with people being gold, as I also find them pushing me aside in the boarding stampede in the morning. How to spot them, usually the ones with a gold QTag hanging off a small backpack, the surface area of the large side is about 5 times the size of the QTag.

I enjoy messing with those guys. Get changed into casual attire with thongs (yes, I know very poor form wearing thongs) after a shower in the lounge. Jump into the vacant bit of the food area while they are all lined up behind one of their brethren who is taking 20 NPPP. There are a whole range of things you can do with boarding, but all of them end up with me presenting my Platinum QFF card to board, or thinking off you go to row 10. The surprised look when I sit in row 4 on a 737 is enjoyable to say the least. Anyway, the point of those people is to provide a good laugh.

QF beware! Even I have applied for a match and if it's accepted, it could easily be that my next RTW will be with them and their partners, assuming they have the relationship with Singapore Airlines and Delta sorted our by then.

I still have my concerns about some aspects of DJ, primarily 737's on PER-MEL, but there's enough there for me to even fly them (shudder:().

Everybody, we need to remember that there are always going to be those kind of people in life that have an ego, DYKWIA attitude, whatever their issue may be. Thankfully, we don't frequent with those types, as we all are drawn to our own types (particularly those here on the Forum, as we know they understand our own thinking - even if our partners don't!). The Lounge appears to be a broader cross-section of life, with the suits now only invading as a increasing proportion now that VA is actively chasing that larger profitable market. As I tend to travel at night, I'll be in smart casual on my outbounds and a suit generally on the way home - however my last trip to PER in J, I was in smart casual the whole way - comfort is paramount to me, not "looking the part in J".

May I also remind that the use of strategically placed emoticons also help convey the message you are typing . Being able to laugh at myself :D and be self-depreciative  is one of my best traits. I also know that whilst I may be a Moderator, a LOT of people know more about flying than me - so I always have the opportunity to have something to learn from most members.

Particularly when it comes to Virgin...I don't even know how to book flights, or know the lingo (taster fares), etc. I am in for a long learning curve and will appreciate anybody taking the time to educate me :D.

So, who here is going to Status Match today? Virgin Frequent Flyer, can you give us any idea on the numbers you converted yesterday - ballpark?

I'm almost tempted to come to a drinks night so that you can frequent with a DYKWIA!!! :p

...and another thing DYKWIA's have feelings too! (That is my bumper sticker.) :D

Now the dust has settled from Day 1, whilst VA has achieved the first hurdle (getting us signed up), it is the easiest. They now have the hardest job - getting pax to actually jump ship and change the habits we have formed (some over decades of travel).

For me, their timing was good. Only 70 SC's short of Gold re-qual, so once I've done them next month, I'll have the time, inclination and energy to devote to VA Gold. Perfect to have my membership years 6 months apart.

I'm one willing and just waiting for the chance to change my habits......

The timing for me is good as well...will requalify sunday with QF half way through my membership year.....so hoping the match comes through quickly so i can get my flights in a fortnight booked with VA....

It's on like....
Dkduck.gif

I have been a 100% loyal QFF since Ansett went south - just sent my WP info to the big virgin in the sky so bring it AWN. :)

I'll be getting my sales team to do the same; personal preferences aside it now opens up far more competition for our work flight spend because most of us simply stuck with OW due to the built up QF status and the convenience/perks it creates.

Now - where the flark did I put that Velocity card??????

Hi All,

I notice on teh VA status match T&C that members of *A programs are ineligble. Does this mean that I can't apply? I'm gold QF but also a member of Krisflyer, with no status there.

Thanks!

R
