The Great Melbourne Cantiniere Catastrophe Corroboree 17 Feb 2023.

Added to Calendar: 17-02-23

So, re: bringing a bottle of Red for the evening. I have never participated in a dinner where I bring a bottle of wine (have always brought a bottle of spirit), so looking for some advice/directions here. Granted that there is no limit (technically) of the vintage or the price, but, as a benchmark - what vintage and/or price range is considered good to bring along? Any recommendations based on what others are bringing (so that I don't duplicate)
I can provide some tips at the Canberra Get together if you like, as I am sure the others will too. You can even throw in with MrsK and I if you like - we're bringing down some Canberra wines, so at least we get something decent to drink :)

(Just in case anyone gets ideas the rules of attendance to this dinner are a red wine of excellent quality, and preferably some age.) So don't follow my attempt at humour.
Well, I can qualify for that - bringing an excellent red wine, and having some age on me (as long as you aren't being ageist :) )

Bring a pinot. Cruiser loves quality pinot ;)

Hello fellow travellers I’m definitely looking forward to the meetup given the rather entertaining posts lately and now having come back from an epic ski trip in one piece no broken bones this season.

Please put me as Platinum 🥳 Thanks.

I love the Vasse Felix "Filius" - Cab Merlot blend. I love it personally and also a super hit at sales at Dan's. Used to stock the 2018, but off late been getting only the recent ones (2019/2020). 2021 and over is not out yet.

A little off topic, but I find Vasse Felix's entry-level and mid-tier labels to be some of the "best value" wines in Australia. They are great quality at the price points.

YMMV.

Updated attendee list to here. Could a mod please copy to post #2?
Looks like I better call the restaurant again...

I agree with you, Mr Kookabura; I am fighting off the cold in Canada, well aided by locally-bought Clonakilla Shiraz.

Air Canada presents four wines in its Mapleleaf lounge and only one is locally sourced, additionally, we have enjoyed Argentian wine in the J cabin on the Air Canada Fights.

Shame, shame, shame, Air Canada.

Air Canada - run from Quebec.
Canadian wines - (mostly) produced in the west.

C'est facile, non?

Thank you @serfty

We now have a reservation for 26 pax;

There are 24 Platinums including @drcam, so 2 spare seats.

As we get closer to the date, please keep me informed of any changes (so I can keep the restaurant updated - it’s the least we can do, and basic courtesy IMHO).

Secondly, a small reminder to bring cash* to assist with bill splitting. This is quite a large group and we’d like to have the night run as smoothly as possible please!

I’m looking forward to catching up with old friends and meeting new ones!

Footnotes:
* For those unfamiliar, cash is money in the physical form of currency, such as banknotes and coins.

i.e. it is that colourful polymer stuff which you put in your wallet or purse and use to pay for your meal, drinks and corkage!
