The Great Melbourne Cantiniere Catastrophe Corroboree 17 Feb 2023.

Added to Calendar: 17-02-23

Attn ALL committed and potential attendees - FYI see here snips of OT menu displaying steak offerings:

Note: All main meals are served with your choice of spuds + steamed vegetables - check the prices - OT is best value restaurant in Melbourne. Full menu HERE

I have been going to OT since 1987 - but it is a 30 min drive from where we live - I still try to get there once a week.

Within 5 mins of where I live is Squires Loft in Cheltenham - the Ette really enjoys it there so we go every week or 2 - was there last night and took a couple of pics of steak offerings from their menu - check the prices V OT's prices:

Squires Loft full menu HERE

OT steak is better quality than Squires Loft and OT owner Emilio is behind the jump cooking himself every night - cooking is def better than Squires Loft.

OT also permits BYO wine - SL doesn't - last night there we had a 2017 Stonewell @ $160 - do the maths and you will quickly realize why we flock to OT as regularly as we do.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at OT on 17th - also looking forward to seeing how penepest handles his job as MC on this night - will certainly provide us with a giggle. 👍

It's either $20 or $25 - must admit I rarely look at a bill - just throw the CC to Sonia, Tania or Cecelia as they all know my PIN - penegal? boomy? can you guys remember?

It was $15 [per bottle] on 20 December 2022.

I didn't check my January bill properly - too many dessert coughtails - it appears that they forgot to charge corkage eintirely...

It was also $15 per bottle 1 month and 5 days ago :p

Thanks for those menu extracts for the Olive Tree, Cruiser Elite. Good to see you are well and truly back in form in "hosting" this event. We now see why you had 3 Planning Dinners. Looks like you have trained Penegal very well in arranging this dinner. I can certainly vouch for the quality of the steak at OT, and their pricing compared to other restaurants. In addition their hospitality is second to none.
I have been fortunate to source a bottle of Blue Nun Vegan Red Wine from Dan Murphy, to bring to the dinner so I am looking forward to participants begging me for a glass. May even have to bring 2 bottles. (Just in case anyone gets ideas the rules of attendance to this dinner are a red wine of excellent quality, and preferably some age.) So don't follow my attempt at humour.

Richard - Just so you know the steak isn't vegan...

Now, how do we pronounce that word "vegan" - @tupekastar has a special way... a bit like "veg-anne"

I thought you were joking! 👀

Given what seems to get ordered based on previous gatherings you made need to suggest that they may need a fair bit of wagyu available for the evening.

So, re: bringing a bottle of Red for the evening. I have never participated in a dinner where I bring a bottle of wine (have always brought a bottle of spirit), so looking for some advice/directions here. Granted that there is no limit (technically) of the vintage or the price, but, as a benchmark - what vintage and/or price range is considered good to bring along? Any recommendations based on what others are bringing (so that I don't duplicate)

What ever you are comfortable with. I am not a wine snob like some here so mine may be the two buck chuck I mentioned earlier. (I might even stretch to three buck chuck)

Just to add these are loose rules - YES bring a bottle of quality wine to share - but please be aware this never has been nor never will be a ‘mine’s bigger than yours’ competition - no set rules on age or pricing etc - whatever standard wine you are comfortable sharing with important people qualifies 😀
