Hi folks,

I am about to book a OneWorld Reward itinerary, and have a few questions I'm hoping to get your expertise on:

INVOLUNTARY CHANGES
I am aware changes cost 5000 points each if I make them, and that point 14.6.1 of the T&Cs states Reward itineraries are subject to the Qantas Conditions of Carriage and the Australian Consumer Law, so we "may be entitled to a refund or other remedy under the Australian Consumer Law depending on the circumstances."

1. Am I right to assume this means that, if I'm partway through my itinerary and a flight is delayed, cancelled, or rescheduled, replacement flight/s will be at no cost to me?

2. What happens if I'm partway through an itinerary and a change that is the airline's fault – i.e., a delayed, cancelled, or rescheduled flight – causes me to miss the next flight (or two)? Do those also get covered?

3. Finally, what happens if replacement flight(s) take a longer route than my original booking and therefore push the itinerary over the 35000 mile cap?


BOOKING BY PHONE VS. BOOKING ONLINE + ADDING BY PHONE
I have read the many horror stories in this forum about the call centers, and someone recently mentioned they prefer booking as much of the itinerary as possible online, then calling to add remaining flights. This would also reduce the fee from 7700 points (new booking via call center) to 5000 points (change).

4. Is it generally easier to make changes (i.e., add flights) to an existing booking via the phone than it is to book the whole itinerary from scratch, or does it simply depend on the employee? I would like to take the route of least resistance.


ELIGIBLE ONEWORLD AIRPORTS/AIRLINES THAT DON'T SHOW ON QANTAS SITE
5. If an airport is served by an eligible OneWorld airline but does not appear on the Qantas multi-city booking tool, can the call center see eligible flights at their end?

For example, Banjul airport in The Gambia has a OneWorld flight with eligible airline Royal Air Maroc to Casablanca, Morocco (AT578) that shows as available via the OneWorld booking network on Seats.aero. However, it is not possible to search this airport via the Qantas multi-city booking tool. Does that mean this flight would not be available at all on a OneWorld Reward itinerary, or would the call center agents be able to see and book it?

You are protected on a one world award in the same way you are protected if you paid for your flights and they are all on the one ticket.

Any delays or cancellations will be handled on the day and you’ll get new flights.

You won’t need to worry about any mileage limitations, that’ll all be taken care of as part of the rebooking process.

In the event of delays/cancelled flights, the carrier will keep you moving on, with flights rebooked by them as necessary. Also, when this happens, award seats are not necessary, as revenue seats can be used by the airline. I have had AA obtain seats on Delta to keep me moving.

The rules (stops, transits, mileage, segments, etc) go out the window at this point. You do not need to worry about those things. When they happen, it will be taken care of.

Edit: I always book as much as I can, on-line. As seats become available, further out, when I phone the Call Centre, I always have the possible flights ready to drip-feed.

Tried a simple dummy booking yesterday and with Fiji Air included it went over the points cap.
With Hawaiian on the itinerary instead it did cap at the expected rate however.

Unfortunately no one really knows on Fiji Air or Oman. It was asked just recently… the reply in post 17170 of this thread was ‘sometime later this year’… so could be a few months yet.

I thought Hawaiian hadn't officially joined Oneworld yet ? So would be ineligible for OWA? Or is it possible due to the tie-up with Alaska? I didn't even consider it for my latest booking but that would have been handy!

Yes they’re not OneWorld and yet… the points capped at the RTW rate with a Hawaiian flight in the itinerary.

If you can’t get it all to work inside the OWCA itinerary, then it might help to buy () a short separate flight from DBV to a larger airport hub, eg Rome or Milan.
That would also get you another ‘free’ stopover, and might also save you a few miles.

It looks like it does, seats on new legs selected via MH. MH has attached the new eticket number to all segments separately, RJ says the new ticket was issued today. Trying to resend invoice on QF just sends the old one again

You seem to be looking at booking a DONE5. DONEs are another product altogether.

As noted by @DC3 this thread is about the Qantas Oneworld Classic flight reward.

I'm hoping to purchase my One World Rewards flight ready to go for a big travel via Business Class Rewards prior to the August change in points.

I have done all the research on it and now about to make the purchase. Am I right that the best thing to do (given I hope to leave April 2026 and return Dec 2026) to purchase what I can as soon as the flights are available? Do I have to book the return flight back now (to the home)?

I have used the one world Route Map and the below itinerary works. However, when searching using the multi tool I believe this route may not meet the criteria due to the limited flights currently available (that are one world flights)

I am planning:

PER- HKG (April '26)
HKG - KIX (May '26)
KIX - YVR (May '26)
YYC - MEX (June '26)
GIG - LHR (flexible as I want to leave South America to go to Europe)
LHR - PER (flexible as I want to leave Europe to go back to Perth)

Dates are flexible for the whole travel.

Any tips would also be appreciated.

Thanks, it all looks good. You can do the same with CX and it all looked good as well. RJ and MH don't send e-tickets but they have eticket number attached. CMT also looks good.

Tried again with QF as well, still keeps sending me old receipt.

If the multi-city tool doesn't show any flights, it is because there are no award seats available. This is unrelated to the availability you see with the RTW tool by oneworld (if this is what you mean by route map) - they are different products.

I don't think KIX-YVR is a route that is flown by JAL, so if you are putting this in it might be erroring out. Put in KIX-NRT-YVR or even NRT-YVR and make your own way to NRT via a surface segment.

I've had a quick look, so far I see only 1 flight in all of April 26 for PER-HKG (in business class), HKG-KIX wide open, NRT-YVR none on oneworld airlines (for your dates in business class). Good luck!

Thank you for your response! I am still trying to navigate the complexities of booking. I have signed up to Aero but think I’ll start booking ASAP to snag up that last April flight as you mentioned.

FYI do you have any advice to navigate finding what routes are best?
I’m stuck particularly on how to get into Canada from Japan!

Your only option for a direct flight using Oneworld airlines will be JAL from NRT to YVR. Your chances of finding a seat in J on that route in May are around zero. Even flying Y you would be unlikely to find availability to fly direct. You will probably have to connect via HKG or the USA. Premium Economy to SEA on JAL has availability.

If you are looking at a Oneworld Reward (which is what this thread is about) use the Qantas multi-city tool (not the Oneworld Routing tool which is for paid flights).
