Update - RJ and MH both show new ticket number issued today

Out of interest do you have RJ and MH flights in your booking? I can’t get either site to now manage a booking without their own metal in an itinerary

14.4.3 A one way oneworld Classic Flight Reward Itinerary will be charged as a return Itinerary. Itineraries finishing in a port other than the port of origin must include the distance to return directly to the port of origin when calculating the number of Qantas Points required to redeem the Flight Reward and the maximum distance for the Itinerary.

Yes, you're right. I was addressing the 'return to port of origin' question, rather than the (more relevant) 'can't stop more than once in the same city' question...

Can I end my itinerary in the Sydney if I started from HKG and also had Sydney as long stopover. ( Planning to split the tour in 2 breaks ).

If you run into any issues with the itinerary for SYD as a long stopover, and then later finishing in SYD as well, then consider making that stopover in say BNE or MEL, with seperate bookings to/from SYD. Just ensure that you will make the connection to resume the OWA itinerary from SYD. Maybe travel on the day prior?

I’m only mentioning this as you could get all sorts of responses when you contact the Call Centre.

I finally got the points to cover the OWA ticket for ( 3-Adult and 1 Infant ). Staring to book my tickets now. Could you please help me with below queries , please don't mind if it sounds newbie kind of question ..

1. Can I end my itinerary in the Sydney if I started from HKG and also had Sydney as long stopover. ( Planning to split the tour in 2 breaks )

I don't think so, because if you stop in SYD and then leave, then later return SYD that would be 2 stop-overs in the same city.

You can transit a city more than once but that needs to be a stop of less than 24 hours so if you dont leave SYD to go back to HKG then you will be there longer than 24 hours the second time.

I believe when i discussed this a while back with madrooster, they mentioned that the end point being the end of the journey doesnt count as either a stop or a transit. Thus what you're doing with SYD endpoint in theory is fine.

However it may be difficult to get the QF computer to recognise it as such.

2. Can I book tickets for 3 adults and then call customer care to add infant to the ticket. Is it straight forward ?

Should be able to add to it, i think finding 3 adult tickets may be harder (if its in business).

3. what does it mean when they say "maximum 10 flight segment if you want to book on the Qantas website" , I can however see 12 flights can be booked from Qantas multi city booking tool. Is there any best practice or hacks ?

Uhh the QF multicity is a bit all over the place. I don't think I've been able to have it co operate after 6 separate flights.

You can call up immediately after and say the online system isn't letting you and they can waive the change fee.

Same here. Although, some have reported better results. I have my doubts about anything like 10-12 segments.

Hi folks,

I am about to book a OneWorld Reward itinerary, and have a few questions I'm hoping to get your expertise on:

INVOLUNTARY CHANGES
I am aware changes cost 5000 points each if I make them, and that point 14.6.1 of the T&Cs states Reward itineraries are subject to the Qantas Conditions of Carriage and the Australian Consumer Law, so we "may be entitled to a refund or other remedy under the Australian Consumer Law depending on the circumstances."

1. Am I right to assume this means that, if I'm partway through my itinerary and a flight is delayed, cancelled, or rescheduled, replacement flight/s will be at no cost to me?

2. What happens if I'm partway through an itinerary and a change that is the airline's fault – i.e., a delayed, cancelled, or rescheduled flight – causes me to miss the next flight (or two)? Do those also get covered?

3. Finally, what happens if replacement flight(s) take a longer route than my original booking and therefore push the itinerary over the 35000 mile cap?


BOOKING BY PHONE VS. BOOKING ONLINE + ADDING BY PHONE
I have read the many horror stories in this forum about the call centers, and someone recently mentioned they prefer booking as much of the itinerary as possible online, then calling to add remaining flights. This would also reduce the fee from 7700 points (new booking via call center) to 5000 points (change).

4. Is it generally easier to make changes (i.e., add flights) to an existing booking via the phone than it is to book the whole itinerary from scratch, or does it simply depend on the employee? I would like to take the route of least resistance.


ELIGIBLE ONEWORLD AIRPORTS/AIRLINES THAT DON'T SHOW ON QANTAS SITE
5. If an airport is served by an eligible OneWorld airline but does not appear on the Qantas multi-city booking tool, can the call center see eligible flights at their end?

For example, Banjul airport in The Gambia has a OneWorld flight with eligible airline Royal Air Maroc to Casablanca, Morocco (AT578) that shows as available via the OneWorld booking network on Seats.aero. However, it is not possible to search this airport via the Qantas multi-city booking tool. Does that mean this flight would not be available at all on a OneWorld Reward itinerary, or would the call center agents be able to see and book it?

You are protected on a one world award in the same way you are protected if you paid for your flights and they are all on the one ticket.

Any delays or cancellations will be handled on the day and you’ll get new flights.

You won’t need to worry about any mileage limitations, that’ll all be taken care of as part of the rebooking process.

In the event of delays/cancelled flights, the carrier will keep you moving on, with flights rebooked by them as necessary. Also, when this happens, award seats are not necessary, as revenue seats can be used by the airline. I have had AA obtain seats on Delta to keep me moving.

The rules (stops, transits, mileage, segments, etc) go out the window at this point. You do not need to worry about those things. When they happen, it will be taken care of.

Edit: I always book as much as I can, on-line. As seats become available, further out, when I phone the Call Centre, I always have the possible flights ready to drip-feed.

Tried a simple dummy booking yesterday and with Fiji Air included it went over the points cap.
With Hawaiian on the itinerary instead it did cap at the expected rate however.

Unfortunately no one really knows on Fiji Air or Oman. It was asked just recently… the reply in post 17170 of this thread was ‘sometime later this year’… so could be a few months yet.

I thought Hawaiian hadn't officially joined Oneworld yet ? So would be ineligible for OWA? Or is it possible due to the tie-up with Alaska? I didn't even consider it for my latest booking but that would have been handy!

Yes they’re not OneWorld and yet… the points capped at the RTW rate with a Hawaiian flight in the itinerary.

If you can’t get it all to work inside the OWCA itinerary, then it might help to buy () a short separate flight from DBV to a larger airport hub, eg Rome or Milan.
That would also get you another ‘free’ stopover, and might also save you a few miles.

It looks like it does, seats on new legs selected via MH. MH has attached the new eticket number to all segments separately, RJ says the new ticket was issued today. Trying to resend invoice on QF just sends the old one again

You seem to be looking at booking a DONE5. DONEs are another product altogether.
