So who will win the prize?? NM's guess looks like it's history...50 posts to go!
Lindsay as I see it there is only person that is in control on how quickly/slowly they reach 1,000 posts.!!!! :D

Please don't even think that for one second I am thinking bad thoughts, just reading most of your posts I think you are as honest as the day is long but for this competition your input should never have been requested. In other words you should not have been aware there was a competition on you reaching 1,000 posts.

The reason I have said this is that on certain occasions you mention that you have restrained yourself from posting so that you don't reach the milestone before acceptances on 7/10.

On some days you have had a very unusual number of posts and on other days you have had very little posts to compensate for the high count of posts on other days. Someone else has mentioned that your average posts per day since this competition started has gone from 0.74 posts per day to 0.78 posts per day. Considering that you had joined in 2002 and you are close to 1,000 posts that is a very significant increase.

But again nothing implied and I respect you and NM the same for both your inputs to both flyer talk and aff. :D :D

Sorry Lindsay this is not meant in a bad way. Your integrity is not even in question. A fairer way would have been if you were not aware what was going on. Just my 1 baht worth. :D

I hope the best guess wins the prize of johnny walker blue label for life. :D :D :D :D

How could it have been arranged so that the person that created the competition new nothing about it? I he hadn't arranged it, I dare say there would be no competition.

I don't think the statistics for posts over the last couple of weeks indicate very much at all. I am sure that if you could look at posts over the last couple of years, you would find weeks where the number of posts were low, and weeks where they were high.

JohnK, an interesting hypothesis. Alan in CBR brought up the subject about when I'd get to 1K POSTS, but I thought it would be great to start a thread "in the interest of getting irregular posters actually posting" by using a prize for the fun of it (similar to the other thread heading in this Forum). I'd think others that know me on this Forum (NM, IainF, Alan in CBR, thadocta, shillard, Willyroo, etc) would probably concur with your thoughts. I love to give what I can to the Forum (both knowledge and now by prize), because in giving, I receive...both by way of thanks and updating my knowledge as well.

Yes, I didn't want to reach the target by 7 Oct, thought that was self-defeating. Yes, I knew that NM would catch up and that might make for a close-run thing. But NM is also a gentleman that I respect very much for his knowledge and our camaraderie.

Why do I have days with few and days with many - easy, work and social/home life goes on and they are more imporant than AFF or FT. For example, like NM hasn't posted over the weekend, neither will I from Wed PM to Fri PM this week, as I'm in CBR and SYD for work. Even though I have wi-fi access, it's finding free wi-fi access that's hard and the time to post - I'm not going to go out of my way, work comes first. I'm also off to the QF AGM on Thursday (CBR), so I'll have my fill there of al things flying . In fact, I'm sure we all have the same posting ratios over time.

I missed out on being a moderator over on the FT QF Forum because I hesitated to put my name in a couple of months ago (not that I really mind, as sometimes I think it's a thankless task). Sometimes I'd rather keep friends than create enemies...petty squables being what they are. I also think there are better moderators than me (both on FT and here). I'd nominate NM in a heartbeat over me.

Yes Lindsay that is exactly what it was. Please accept any apologies if you feel that anything else was implied.

I don't need to meet you to see that you are a sincere person. Your input on this site is testimony to that.

Keep up the good work. :D :D :D

JohnK, taken in the way it was implied (in jest). I rarely am too serious about posts unless somebody is flaming me...

dOOt, are you meaning me to slow down (so you can win). Sorry, friendships mean nothing in this competition  :D

Or the scrutineers need to amend the rules of the contest by stating that any posts made in this thread don't count towards the "magical 1000"!

;)

NM is of similar ilk to Dave Noble. Problem is that he's been out of the country a lot this year. Usually we've been able to meet at the BNE QP semi-regularly; but haven't been able to get together that much this year. I still have his Concorde DVD....
I am honoured to be placed in the same company as the 8* DSN. But alas I don't carry any stars, and I learn a great deal from Dave. Sharing a beer (or two, or more) with him is always a great learning experience for anyone with an aviation/FF program bent :D .

Yes, Lindsay, we need another "session" soon. Its been too long. But my travel has slowed back to normal rates again for a while, so lets get planning  .

Looks like the gap rose to about 65 while I was do my best to punish my aching body with 90+ boys (8-11 year olds) over the weekend. Kids that age must operate on duracells - they just don't stop for the whole weekend. Anyway, back on board now and closing the gap :D .

I've got a session at the QF AGM in Canberra on Thursday with Alan in CBR, Craigo and others; so when I'm back we'll have to get one together with IainF and others that feel the need.

Ah, the joys of looking after that many kids (on a camp, from the sounds of it). Surprised you survived

Yeah, we were at Bornhoffen, between Nerang and Murwillumba. Nearly killed me  . How can kids exist on 2 hours sleep and run around all day without keeling over :?: . Between Water Balloon Volley Ball, Hiking, Tug-o-war, Hiking, Billy carts, Hiking, Frisby/Vortex Tennis, Hiking, Hand Baseball, Hiking, Swimming, and Hiking, my legs are ready do drop off, not to mention loosing my voice. Oh well, the boys all had a fantasic time and the food was good :D .

When a kid who comes from a broken and dysfunctional home comes up to you at the end of the weekend and says "This is the best time I've ever had in my life", the pain is put into perspective and I sign up again for next year  .

I was thinking I was getting too old for this, then looked at the 70 year old guy next to me and again I was put into perspective.

Good luck, but for some reason I find myself unwilling to have a punt on you doing that :D

oops, sorry about cutting you a star short  .

And welcome to AFF 8) . Now, we just need to get our faithful admin to include a STAR smiley and we can annotate you correctly 8) .

Now, I will have to try to earn myself a start or two. Or perhaps I could just settle for a :?: or two?

I think eventually you will end up having the highest post count but not to 1,000 posts first.
Nothing surer...I was 150 posts ahead at one stage (before this thread) and I thought it would take a while for him to catch me. We introduced him to AFF...I should feel lucky that Dave Noble doesn't frequent here otherwise I'd have been third to make it to the 1K mark...
Your luck has run out Lindsay. :D

I was talking to Dave Nobleat lunch-time and mentioned we'd been talking about him, but I didn't really think he'd sign up...then about the time when I was talking to Craigo this afternoon, I see he's made his inaugural post.

Now I'll bet he'll beat JohnK to the 1K mark 8)

And they will be 1000 valuable contributions to the community! Not that I am implying JohnK's are not valuable :D .

All bets off, I wouldn't stand a chance against the master. :D

You should have implied that. I don't think that I have posted anything that has made any sense or has been of any value to anyone. Why should I? My therapist said in order to gain some attention that I should join aff and just post jibberish. :? :? :?

Now where is that therapist when you need her.... :(
