Ah, BlacKnox, the 8.5 star (*) dsn that would be the guru Dave Noble (of Flyertalk fame) and his famed "travel agency" (or encyclopaediac knowledge of flying)...

So it's a person. Whew, I was starting to think it was something akin to a star wars like robot  .
I think the jury is still out actually. I don't know any person who can reel off so much information in one go, which makes me lean towards "robot". On the other hand, I don't know any computer which can reel off so much information and be right every time, which indicates "person".

Perhaps he's like Mr Bean - one day he just dropped out of the sky, and has been creating havoc ever since. Of course in Dave's case, it's havoc in a good way.

Anecdote: Last week I sent him a PM, because I had just had a trip to the US cancelled, less than 48 hours before departure. I was quite dejected because it meant that it would be unlikely that I would hit AA Exec Plat (OW Emerald) this year. Within two minutes my mobile rang, and Dave then spent over half an hour working through options with me. He finally came up with a solution which makes Exec Plat still a possibility, which of course improved my mood immeasurably.

That pretty much sums up why he has so many stars 8) . Both knowledgeable and a nice guy.

So even though I am now 54 posts behind the grand master, unless there are lot of questions I can answer tomorrow morning, my count will be pretty static and sub-900 until into next week.
So, as predicted, the gap is now 50 and I am "postusnongratis" for the weekend.

So Lindsay, here's your chance to close me right out of the race and see if the post counters will go into 4 digits :D . And see if there is a posting status beyind "Posting Freak" .

Alan in CBR, that is a beautiful expose of Dave Noble. I think a lot of his ability comes from his high IQ. I use him for all of my questions, bookings, etc as well (see my Fltertalk Oneworld topic - he's helped me re-qual for Plat this year again with his ability using ExpertFlyer and knowing the trick of AA's A class posting to QFF accounts).
I was frustrated for your when I read your PM and then spoke to Dave a couple of days later to hear from him what he's done.

NM is of similar ilk to Dave Noble. Problem is that he's been out of the country a lot this year. Ususally we've been able to meet at the BNE QP semi-regularly; but haven't been able to get together that much this year. I still have his Concorde DVD....

The gap dropped from 100 to 50 over the last week, but I'll probably add 20 posts over the weekend.

So, now it's 5pm Friday and guesses are now closed. I'll be back with the list...

If I was cynical, I'd be starting to think that Lindsay Wilson has actively encouraged this thread in an effort to build the post count. It's been a post-fest in here during the last couple of weeks...

How dare you :!:

Of course you shouldn't be that cynical. Lindsay has much higher integrity and ethical standards than that :!:

Actually the main reason was to promote other members who don't post a lot to begin to post and so that they could be in the running for a prize. I shared my thoughts with admin who agreed to support my thread. At 875 posts when this started, I have purposesly NOT posted gibberish here to pad my post count.

Trust me, I am encroaching on 4,000 posts in another BB and I have been neglecting that achievement.

Thanks straitman...the $50's in the mail  :D

So, the posters with an opportunity to win the prize are (in chronological order):

I think you will find that NM (22 posts) and I (20 posts) have been major contributors to this thread because we went off track with metric time, grand hermitage, johhny walker blue and other jibberish. :D

I think Lindsay has been a little restrained.

Sorry NM the difference is now 58 posts and Lindsay only needs 53 more posts to reach 1,000, and since you won't be posting on weekend I think has it all sown up.

I think eventually you will end up having the highest post count but not to 1,000 posts first. You fought a good battle but Lindsay toughed it out. I notice your post count on flyer talk is close to 7,000 which in itself is a remarkable achievement. 3 Cheers for NM.

The posting status beyond 1,000 is "Nothing better to do" :D :D :D :D

Nothing surer...I was 150 posts ahead at one stage (before this thread) and I thought it would take a while for him to catch me. We introduced him to AFF...I should feel lucky that Dave Noble doesn't frequent here otherwise I'd have been third to make it to the 1K mark...

Which is where we both spend the majority of our online time, although AFF has been more worthy in the past month. He's been there longer than me and has 3K posts more. I'll never catch him there...

At this point I don't really think it matters what time I put in either. I'll be surprised if it doesn't go off in October.

Hmm, some random thought about Financial Planners, Integrity and a company that once had the intials NM just floated through my head. A thought best not repeated....

Ah yes, a company that continuously gives me business (or should I say it's advisers)...it makes my life comfortable.

So who will win the prize?? NM's guess looks like it's history...50 posts to go!
