Feels Like Home

The ad is OK. New ad? Darn dejavu. Feels like I have seen it before.

Every time I step on a Qantas aircraft overseas it feels like I am home. That feeling partly influences my decision.

I don't get the same feeling on an SQ, TG, BA or VS aircraft.

Its a great Ad. Though Im not sure it will make any difference except to reinforce to some rusted on customers the sentimental reason for flying the Roo.

At least Full marks for trying

I've just watched all the previous ads from QF. All very sentimental but none have helped arrest the decline in the QF brand. Now more than ever less people fly QF internationally.

Qantas is chasing premium passenger and their focus is definitely on the upmarket area, however I feel they are neglecting the leisure traveller. Most passengers travel BFOD especially in Y, and QF has not given them a reason to fly the Roo. Sentimental ads wont assist the airline to remedy the problem.

No sentimental ad will remedy the deplorable situation encountered by the passenger who was downgraded from J to Y and then offered a manifestly inadequate compensation.

I watched the first few minutes of the move "UP" on Ch7 this evening - it brought a lump to my throat - just like it did a few years ago likely on a QF international flight.

Sadly, on the other hand, watching the advertisement brought only cynical feeling - after a thousand QF flights I have perhaps become numb (comfortably¹).

¹ Tear down the wall ...

Many thanks to those who have posted versions of "I Still Call Australia Home".It still has more effect on me than this ad.
I used to get a warm feeling when boarding a QF plane home but not for some time.I can vividly recall getting on a QF 747 at SFO after our first trip to the US in the early 80's.They even held the plane for us due to a late connecting flight. And because we were last to board we got the exit row seats so that immediately we boarded the door was shut, off we went to our own safety briefing. And we were in Y.
But it was getting on a QF plane that had that effect, not when arriving.

However due to Red Roo's involvement with Jennifer and Scott Red Roo can no longer do any wrong in my eyes.

For PaulST, it was mentioned by AJ at the end of Aug 14 AGM, that there was a greater possibly, or was it for sure, that QF would be back in "black/profit" this upcoming reporting year.
Was discussed here too a few days back, someone said that QF/AJ should provide guidance/dividend if QF was back in black/profit.

I like it. It flows on well from previous campaigns and stresses the personal involvement. Travel is about coming home at the end of the trip, and no matter how many fantastic places I've been or friends I've met, when I get on that last flight home and see the kangaroo on the tail, hear the Australian accent and all the rest of it, I breath a sigh of relief - no more hassling with cabbies and panhandlers, no more generic hotel rooms - I'll be back in my own home soon, surrounded by people I love, and I can kick off the shiney shoes, slip on the sandals and go out to collect the paper, look up at a magpie singing its heart out and say, "I'm home, mate!"

Best fare of day only goes so far. If the fares are reasonably close, emotion comes into the decision.

Good to hear.

"Still call Australia home" was a great campaign. Has anyone found any HD versions of it online? All of the youtube videos I've found are 240p.

Here is an HD version: Qantas Feels like home launch 2min on Vimeo

Showed it to mum yesterday. She teared up about halfway through. Said she identified strongly with the emotions - both the turning up to the airport and seeing the red tail, as well as farewelling and picking me up from my travels all the time :p

Thanks Brett, although I was asking about the 'Still call Australia home' ad. Sorry, I should have made myself clearer. :)

Looks like QF is onto a winner with this ad. Good job QF!

I like it. Definitely plays on all the right emotions. Would have liked to see a little bit more of the red tails, but I'll reserve judgement until I see the individual 30 and 60 sec versions.

Seems to be a lot going on at QF at the moment - new seats, increased flying, new ad campaign. I sure hope this is a sign that the corner has been turned and the Flying Kangaroo is back on a path to success!

The sign of corner turning for me, will be when the first 787-9 has a red kangaroo on the tail. Definitive proof that management are giving QFi the cost saving, fuel efficient aircraft they so desperately need.

And/or 777X? :)
There's a model of a red tailed 787 at Sydney airport and it looks great.

If I arrive back in Australia on a QF aircraft, it means that I have at least another 4+ hour flight ahead of me to get home, as QFi have decided that they do not wish to serve anymore than three cities* in their home country. So boarding a EK/EY/QR/SQ/CX or even JQ/3K flight gets me home a lot faster now.

Nice ad, but leaves a bad taste in my mouth.....

*four cities once we get our two flights weekly, seasonal PER-AKL service.

It is a pain to arrive in Australia, get through Immigration, then go line up and do it all over again in a domestic flight. We will be doing this at Christmas but at least I will have the F lounge to enjoy for four hours. And then board an Emirates flight to Bangkok. That bit is weird.

Not too many international flights out of Canberra. But I no complain.

At least CBR doesn't have a three plus hour flight to connect to QF international service...

Wandering (would be happier with a PER-SIN service on QF... even a 738)

I blinked a few times so barely noticed it was a Qantas ad.

All about the emotions of coming home - nicely done. But increasingly that's not on QF anymore for many Australians.

And not a patch on "I still call Australia home" with the kids singing in exotic locations. They should have just rolled out another round of that. I usually go along with Dr Johnson's "patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel". But that song and imagery always got to me on a flight home.

While both campaigns were all about form, there was more substance to back it up in the past.
