If I was in the QF marketing department, I would be reading over this thread... Talk about a freebee with marketing.

I fly QF, because I like QF. I've liked them since I was a kid, I feel comfortable on a QF plane as I know when things are likely to happen, what I am likely to get and with limited exception there have been no nasty surprises.

To be honest it would probably take a massive mistake on QF's part for me to switch my flying over to VA.

That's not to say I haven't been on a VA flight (well DJ), and I have flown a couple of other carriers despite a QF option being available, but it's pretty rare.

Good to hear.. Now if you offered Status credits on all reward flights permanently that would be fantastic!

If not SC's they should count towards flight flown, as ultimately you using the currency of points to pay for the flights

For me, and my travel:

Better inclusive product (with one exception). Ife is a big one.

Better ff earn rates on short sectors

Generally better amenity at the terminals

generally on hold less on the phone and generally better phone support

At the moment a booking engine that works

Better recovery from irrops.

Well if you are reading let me tell you about an experience last week - flew J Mel-CBR on Wed 16 16:15 flight or something like that. At the end of the flight the head FA came and shook the hand of everyone in J and said he hoped they had had an enjoyable flight - never had that happen domestically before, but it left me feeling so warm and fuzzy I wanted to fly Qantas forever - didn't get his name unfortunately although I was trying to squint at his name tag as I walked off.

I fly QF for a few reasons:

- times to / from CBR are most convenient for me
- I'm more familiar with the website - the VA one just confuses me no end
- my family believes QF has the best safety record, and if they're happy and not worried, my life is much, much better...
- the banks I've used have tended to have partnerships with QF rather than VA
- AIX is a pretty good OS.

In no order:

1. Reliability - I book a QF flight I am certain it's not going to be cancelled 1-4 months out because of yet another schedule change
2. Lounges - The lounges have a good variety of food that changes often. The CBR J lounge is sensational right up until the last flight on a Sunday night.
3. Staff - The cabin crew training has paid off, with outstanding crew and CSM's
4. Recognition - As a Plat on my last 2 flights in Y, I have had a personal welcome from the CSM and a thank you for being loyal speech
5. Food - Well I haven't yet experience the APPARENT reduction in meals but I can be pretty sure to get a reasonable feed on all flights, and it's easy to fill up in the lounge beforehand. In J - The food/wine/service blows VA out of the water
6. IFE - Every plane has IFE (737/767/A330) so I can have something to watch/listen to, on the other airline it's basically nothing or I have to fiddle around with my own device
7. Seating - The J seating on QF is far better than VA (excluding A330's on VA). The BSI J seating and leather is sensational!

I'm assuming you're including main screen in IFE, and not just AVOD. Whilst they are getting better on the AVOD front (and pretty much every int except HNL has it), they are still lacking for dom (transcon services excluded).
I wouldn't call main screen IFE a big plus, as for the most part I'll use my iPad over watching main screen. If AVOD is offered however I will happy watch that instead of stuffing around with an iPad.

Not every plane has IFE (don't know about J but definitely not all planes in whY). The 767s aren't all referb'ed yet so no IFE in all planes, and the last couple times I flew the 737 they didn't have IFE. (Pretty sure they were 73H without BSI)

Edit: Whoops completely mixed IFE with AVOD... my bad

Main screen IFE and 10 radio channels is a huge plus when compared to VA

I said IFE not AVOD

IFE is drop down screens/projectors etc

Every 737 has something
Every 767 has something (from memory)

Yeah just realised my mistake after I posted. Fly the 767 mostly in and out of CNS, they do have something, usually something on the projector/screens. Can't wait for all the planes to be refurb'ed though! And every aircraft has at least the QRadio.

I wouldn't pretend to share your reaction to the FA's gesture Flying mermaid (this practice has been discussed on another thread, where I am one of those who consider it a curious thing to do), but I am left wondering about customer relations vis-à-vis product delivery ... was it an enjoyable flight? Did the on board product meet your expectations?

Yeah, I wouldn't call the 767 projector IFE anything to write home about. I'd say 90% of 767 flights I've been on, the projector main screen has been that terrible that all you could see is dark and light shadows. In one instance I strongly suspect it was projecting black and white only...

Like many others, a year or so ago I got VA Plat matching and was intending to use it. In the end I didn't but I did check out the Lounges in Perth and Adelaide. Had a couple of drinks in the Adelaide one free! VA just isn't for me. The lounge in Perth is quite small with no view and the one in Adelaide is small too.

The Qantas Lounge in Perth is quite busy to say the least but you do know you are still alive when you go there!

All the places I fly (with the exception of Carnarvon WA) I can go with Qantas and I prefer to stick with one and Qantas is definitely for me, the better of the two by a long way.

Still better than staring at a purple perspex panel... :D

But yeah agree the Projectors have seen better days..

The ones I have been in had iPads though.
