Why do you fly QF (domestic)

What he said.

The First Class Lounges around the world, especially MEL and SYD are a great point of difference. I've invested a lot of time and money with Qf and it's paying off. I've got LTS and LTG is within sight.

I am happy with how I'm treated and Qf staff have looked after me where ever possible.

I agree with all of the above. Three years ago I didn't know what status was but thanks to AFF, and particularly serfty & markis10, I'll be LTG by the end of March. The SYD & MEL F Lounges are significant benefits.

Sorry Serfty, ...
Don't be sorry - it is you preference.

To be honest I don't mind them either.

The issue is that not too long ago, Qantas used to serve similar as a simple 'snack' on afternoon flights - not as a main meal in the evening.

Good to hear.. Now if you offered Status credits on all reward flights permanently that would be fantastic!

Agreed! Virgin are doing it, and points have value - I don't see why this shouldn't happen.

Currently, but included checked luggage for non status PAX on Qantas domestic might go the way of the domestic dinner tray ...

That would be a disaster. Hard enough to fit your carryon bag into the overheads as it is - imagine if the plane was filled with people who were too cheap to pay the extra $20 or whatever it is for checked bags. Everything would be gate checked, flights would be delayed, and they wouldn't make any money anyway.

And if that ever occurs then priority boarding better be enforced, and very strictly.

I hope checked baggage is always free for all pax. Having seen the bun fight that carry on luggage causes in the USA I can only say that it would be a false economy to charge for baggage.

I will admit carry-on on VA flights can be a hassle if your not first on the plane (I've flown 170 domestic Y sectors with them last year).

On my QF flights this week (x SYD to PER, and to BNE) carry on wasn't an issue very well organised and I'm pretty much last on the plane as a NB!

Might have something to do with the fact that every time I see a VA or JQ flight boarding pretty much every passenger is carrying on their fair share of carry on. Whereas on QF there are some who take large carry on (I'll admit I've pushed it a few times on QF when I do short trips home and want to avoid check-in) but most just carry on a small bag or nothing at all! The flip side is the wait for luggage is worse or at the very least very crowded.

Leaving from Syd T2 the checkin/bagdrop is so much easier than Virgin

Do you mean T3? As T2 is used by Virgin, Jetstar, Qantas Link and the various regional airlines.

Because we frequently fly with a disabled passenger and have found Qantas most times to be helpful, courteous and respectful of the disabled passenger. Also Qantas Special Needs listen to our requests and where possible implement them.
Other airlines put so much garbage in the way of taking a disabled person that we dont use them or even attempt to use them any more.

This.

I fly QF Domestic because I like QF international. Consequently I have to tolerate the poor domestic service thanks to the marginalization of MEL as an international airport. I could try to make connections with VA but it is all too hard.

A question was asked -an answer was given.

Does Space filler mean you are an oversized person & dont receive the excellent service we do with a disabled passenger?

Why do I fly QF - because of the sub-standard experience that VA gives me (just arrived AKL-BNE in Y+).

Nothing specifically wrong - just another underwhelming experience.

But to be fair - this is a domestic thread so I will wait to complete my next sector. (BNE-CNS in J) before passing full judgement on VA.

I'm thinking the OP was simply fulfilling the minimal (IIRC = 10) character requirements for a post to be accepted.

Because everything just works and when it doesn't, it is handled competently (except 1 time where I wasn't given a taxi voucher when I should have been which added 90 minutes on to an already long, delayed day).

Even as a silver I find oneworld a massive carrot.

Agree +1

When things go wrong (on average):

QF = on the ball - know what to do and how to handle the situtation (maybe it's the experience of things going wrong....)

VA = unless you are going MEL-SYD-BNE good luck - and this is from experience with VA as a platinum. When things go wrong they generally go really wrong. I typically need to suggest solutions in order to get things back on track to ground staff. Lounge staff generally better.

My top 5 major domestic delays/stuff ups last year QF1: VA4

I often travel with a passenger who is disabled and I was agreeing with your comment.

amaroo was correct with his post

Having flown QF, VA, Jetstar, and Tiger domestically QF wins.

When everything runs on time and it's a smooth flight I find they are basically all the same (with price balancing out what's included / not included). It's what happens when something goes wrong that QF seems to handle it the best.

I've had delays, re-schedules, lost luggage, etc, etc over the years with most of them and Qantas seems to provide the best "peace of mind". They ain't perfect but they are good.

Of special note - Tiger - gave up on them years ago due to ridiculous re-schedules (e.g. 10 hours), a check in service at Melbourne that is/was amateur, and after losing a bag not being able to find it until the lady I was speaking to realised it was sitting next to her desk ...

For VA - a work in progress - on my last four J "coast-to-coast" services I've had one broken seat, one seat change to re-unite a family, one aircraft change (and there is a huge gap between J on the 738 vs A332), and only one flight where I actually sat in the seat I booked (and even then I noticed that there had been a change from the 27 seat J A332 to the 24 seat J configuration) .....

Basically the customer service, the way you are treated. As I get older I appreciate the personality of the QF FAs; the VA ones are complete amateurs, yes they are often more pleasant on the eyes but they are very much less mature and have NO class.

Yes I travel on both QF and VA, my status was not due to status match. The lounge is cough vs QANTAS, even the QP. QF look after you, VA just want to muck around, giggle with each other etc.
