This is not designed to be an argument about QF v VA.

The question is on my mind as to why you choose to fly QF.

I am trying to look for the positive aspects of each airlines offering.

Work travel would allow me to maintain WP with both by flying ex SYD on VA and return on QF and am able to use hotels and rental cars which credit points to either.

I am slightly inclined to consolidate points on the one program as opposed to share between the two, however I can see the advantages of either.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Only QF operate my most regular flights (PER-BNE v.v) at the most convenient times for me.

If VA would match these flight times, they may get a lot more of my business.

Mine is status aswell. VA Status match was great but QF have more destinations which is better for me.OW is a huge bonus travelling overseas.

I fly VA because they can do priority boarding in ADL. I don't need a meal at 6am, besides what's in the lounge.

QF SYD domestic business lounge can be beaten. The late night schedule from SYD better suits my needs. However, VA has added a flight so I also try to support that.

Price is my number one consideration.

Perceived reliability and safety.
I must also confess to falling for the shiny trinkets of status, but having had the VA status match I think the first reasons are still the overriding ones.

I locked in early with QF (1996) stayed because it didn't take long to work out the benefits of OW.

I stay because I'm very close to LTG & enjoy FC lounges around the world.

In regards to DOM travel.....not much, QF doesn't service MCY.

Same here. The VA flights to our route are more vacation timings than business ones.

I usually pick QF as in the past at work it was our carrier of choice.

These days to me it is about the aircraft I fly in. I much prefer a wide body commuting MEL-SYD so will always take a 767 over a 737 even with the 'age' of the aircraft. I also find the J lounges better than VA, especially as they have spirits in them.

I've also been quite well looked after with different things over the years too..

Why do I stay? well i have no reason to shift all my flying to VA, and they really don't offer anything exceptional to want to move either. plus the F Lounge is a damn good carrot!

Put simply, QF has a better schedule than VA. I get free Gold through work with VA but I self fund my QF.

QF has 10 odd flights to Perth a day ex Karratha, VA has 2 and 3 on some days and the connections don't line up end up with 3-4hrs in Perth each way if going east and QF also have the direct flights to BNE/SYD/MEL.

Convenience.

For me it is timing and where I have to travel.

Price is second or third in the decision process.

Included luggage (though VA seems to be evolving there at least). I genuinely travel with more then carry on 95% of the time.

More partner airlines (and an intra-European one to boot!). I like the pretty things that come with SCs.

Ease of my QF status being recognised and reciprocated in the US and EU by partner airlines. One of the major pluses of being in an alliance instead of a 'pick & choose' network.

Great overall experience dealing with QF staff (I may just be lucky there - but good service does lead to return patronage!)

Quality of product once on the plane

I posted this in the "Are AFF members blinded by" thread recently but I think it will fit in here as well (edited slightly).

I choose to fly Qantas Domestically (& Intl) because in general they're far superior to anything else out there, their FF is arguably the best in the industry, I feel valued even as a Gold FF (I've had op-ups, 100% points upgrade success rate.etc), they're the only full service premium carrier in Australia (by definition not by claim) I don't like to travel on budget carriers where possible, I value my time and like efficiency, Qantas are good at those 2 things.

Good widebody aircraft, some type of food/drink on each flight, included baggage, great lounges.

Inertia.
Have zero status with VA, and can't be bothered working my way up. Used to fly them quite a bit as a LCC, fly them every now and again now and find them quite good these days.
Basically, if QF ever tightened the rules for Dom J lounges (to P1 only) all bets would be off and I'd split my flying between them with the aim of gold status on both.
J lounge, followed by F lounge Int is the only real carrot for me.

To steal a phrase from the VA thread-As an aadvantage member it is a no brainer.

As indicated I have lounge access with both QF and VA, the latter through both VA SG and NZ GE.

Most of my domestic flight these days are on VA business, simply because the awards are cheaper.

I don't really care about wide bodies etc.

My domestic travel is infrequent enough as it is.

My last domestic trip 2½ weeks ago was on QF to OOL, simply 'cause the fare was $88 each way. The only other domestic trip on QF was to the FT AGM in BNE last February. (I do have the QF domestic connection to an international flight however - but they don't count here ...)
