Why do you fly QF (domestic)

Basically the customer service, the way you are treated. As I get older I appreciate the personality of the QF FAs; the VA ones are complete amateurs, yes they are often more pleasant on the eyes but they are very much less mature and have NO class.

Yes I travel on both QF and VA, my status was not due to status match. The lounge is cough vs QANTAS, even the QP. QF look after you, VA just want to muck around, giggle with each other etc.

Back in the Virgin Blue days, I remember a FA giggling her way through the safety briefing as a male FA made funny faces at her. I was thinking "hmmm... Probably not going to rely on YOU if the poo hits the fan".

My advice would be never to mistake a sense of humour for incompetence.

For me, it is their schedule and the fact that I can get a drink (and a reasonable snack/meal) on all my flights. Also, with QF I will get some form of IFE on the plane (and not having to play the plane lottery on VA). Plus, I also get access to the QP when I fly with them and they seem to handle things better during irregular-ops.

IMHO, the FAs on both VA and QF are both very friendly so it is not a huge factor for me.

If you have flexibility, why put all your eggs in one basket?
I took the family around Aus last July and used a combination of QF and DJ to achieve Syd - Uluru, Alice - Darwin - Perth - Syd.
I am happy to burn points for domestic and fly J for 2+ hour legs. QF competes much better with DJ for availability and surcharges on domestic than against VA for international.

Every now and again you get a great flight and great crew. QF650 on Sat 11th was stand out. I enjoyed every moment of it.

OOL-SYD on Friday night I was looking for somewhere to put my bag other than overhead bin as I had some medication that I had unprofessionally packaged in ice and was worried about leaking everywhere. FA was assisting me and as no one was sitting in 3DF put it under 2D.

On my last VA flight SYD-OOL there was no one in business and I was spoken to sternly for trying to use business class overheads for my laptop bag. Hmmm.

Same QF flight OOL-SYD and dinner service had started. Some chicken dish with rice. Was quite OK. Anyway I was thinking this is not Cityflyer so must be cash bar and I heard the same as someone else asked. The person in 4F asked for range of beers and when he did not like the choice asked for wine and put on headphones. FA asked for $6 and tried to get his attention but he was spaced out and let it go. I asked if beer was complimentary and she looked at me and smiled and said "Yes considering the man in 4F did not pay for it either".

It is the little things that matter and Qantas is doing them right. A shame current management is hell bent on winding down the company....

I like QF because:

- Domestic flight frequency;
- I can request a meal that I can actually eat (VGML);
- Oneworld membership;
- QP membership for cheap gives me lounge access when I mostly fly discount Y;
- 767s on MEL - SYD.

Areas where VA are better (IMHO):

- Sydney lounge dedicated entrance;
- love the E190s (2 - 2 seating in Y can't be beaten).

Bearing the above in mind I'll usually stick with QF unless there is a greater than 20% price differential.

That's my primary reason for preferring QF too. I've given VA a few goes since the rebranding, but for all intents and purposes it's still the same silly DJ "ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls" routines. I've never met a VA staff member with a modicum of sophistication, class or deportment (male or female).

Other reasons: T2 in Sydney is a nightmare. I avoid it for all the same reasons I avoid shopping malls and food courts. T3 even at peak hours is calm, spacious, quiet (apart from the QP when it's overflowing of course!)

Catering used to be a definite QF advantage over VA too, but QF have gone down a notch in my estimation if meal flights are now all getting wraps and pies. Flew SYD-OOL-SYD around xmas on a lunchtime flight and was served a totally inedible "mexican" doughy, fake cheesy, ketchuppy microwaved, plastic wrapped thing that reminded me of one of VA's Luke Mangan wraps (yuck. junk). The return flight was an equally unpalatable cheese and spinach soggy thing. I assumed this catering was targeted at these holiday flights for being more "family friendly" than a decent, fresh, remotely healthy sandwich. I hope it's not a ploy to get rid of meals altogether by making them so disgusting that people don't want them. The PR department can then pump out something along the lines of "We're enhancing our mealtime catering offerings due to the fact that over 50% of passengers on cityflyer flights decline food when offered and many of our Neil Perry inspired meals are collected half eaten...we will give you greater choice by offering a selection of delicious hot meals available for purchase" DON'T DO IT QF!!!!

Wrong question. When are alcoholic drinks complimentary on QF? After 4pm on weekdays on flights departing a selected capital cities.
And don't forget after 4:00pm on all Qantaslink flights.

Which aircraft does Virgin have that has 3 - 3 seating and only goes back to row 22?
