Why do you fly QF (domestic)

- All inclusive airfares including luggage, meals and drinks
- Global alliance and much better schedules
- Status including lounges
- Much better frequent flyer program
- Better aircraft on domestic services (wide bodies) and more international destinations with their own aircraft

For anyone who does more international than domestic, it really is a no brainer. VA is suitable if you mostly only do domestic as their pick and choose international network leaves a lot to be desired, especially in terms of status recognition etc. at some ports (DL, EY and so forth).

I'd be in that camp.

With no price restrictions, I'd always prefer to fly QF domestic (lounges, service (especially J in the air), aircraft). However as I think VA has a perfectly good domestic whY service (but an overpriced J one) I usually choose VA of domestic based on price (avoid J* like the plague), especially short haul (<3 hrs).

Flying *A international, I usually choose VA domestic connection. If its QF/1W international, then obviously QF domestic.

Was also status matched last year to VA, tried to move over with a few flights here and there but was underwhelmed.
Attained my final goal with QF last year so now the reason I fly with them is:

- FCL access
- One World Awards
- The fact I can credit many of my sectors to AA :)

I choose to fly Qantas Group (QF and JQ) because Virgin's pricing and product falls neither into full carrier or LCC.

My choice is down to price.

And if I'm travelling HLO then it's JQ as they're cheaper than VA 99% of the time. The other 1% of the time when VA is cheaper than JQ is when they have a sale and it's either too far out for me to buy a seat or the travel dates don't fit what I need.

If I need to travel with luggage it's QF, because at the end of the day when I add all the luggage fees up, QF is either the cheapest or only marginally more expensive ($10 or $20) and wouldn't mind paying that as I get better service with QF anyway. The few times I've dealt with VA it's left me with a sour taste in my mouth and has turned me away from VA.

I would admit that status does influence my choice in carrier but only on an international scale. QFF makes up for the slightly higher pricing on OW airlines as the points allow me to redeem for flights in Australia.

Only times I see myself switching to VA is either when I'm stuck in an emergency and need tickets ASAP and VA is the cheapest or most convenient, they pick up their game and finally make a decision as to whether they want to be a full service carrier or LCC and not in between, or if they join *A. (or if QF falls out of the sky)

No reason to use anyone else, was previously with Ansett. And some bias as a family member works for QF.

I use Qantaslink a bit and of course Virgin have lousy regional schedule and limited destinations.

Often have no choice - but I would say I fly QF due to better network coverage and frequency in some places, to keep VA honest, better FF program, more widebody aircraft and their lounge network is slightly better.

I prefer the QF terminal in SYD over T2, and the included luggage with QF (although most DOM flights I have carry-on only). Included meals don't bother me as QF 'meals' are a joke these days.

Unless the price is stupid with QF (at which point I'll switch to VA) then no reason to give up lounge and status.

I'm waiting for VA to be the airline it needs to be.....

Until then - QF meets my needs - except when they mistakenly feel that JQ is included in that statement - which for the record, it is not!

Join Star Alliance and VA will win a significant share of my travel.

If I was in the QF marketing department, I would be reading over this thread... Talk about a freebee with marketing.

I fly QF, because I like QF. I've liked them since I was a kid, I feel comfortable on a QF plane as I know when things are likely to happen, what I am likely to get and with limited exception there have been no nasty surprises.

To be honest it would probably take a massive mistake on QF's part for me to switch my flying over to VA.

That's not to say I haven't been on a VA flight (well DJ), and I have flown a couple of other carriers despite a QF option being available, but it's pretty rare.

Well they should do the right thing and reward those who have responded with P1 or at the very least WP status :D

Unfortunately I work for a finance company and not an airline, and everyone's feedback is great. Helps me understand the good aspects of the airline to chose who my 170 yearly sectors go to.

All my international travel is on Qantas, so main reason would be the status.
Other reasons:
- They don't mess around with schedules.
- 767s
- I have a soft spot for them

I fly QF because I dislike low cost carriers, and I still perceive QF to be a quality product. QF are the only available airline servicing our work route to the Pilbara, which means we have earned status in the FF program.

Many years ago we used to toggle between Ansett and TAA/Qantas. Have pretty much always flown Qantas internationally. Once Ansett died Qantas was the only choice as I don't like LCC carriers. Now there is Virgin as an alternate domestically, but haven't tried as yet because I am happy with Qantas. I like the lounges, flight attendants are nice 95% of the time and I have status, which gives me extra points.I also like the one world alliance. Once I have LTG I want to try airlines like Singapore internationally just to see what they are like, but I can't see me changing domestically unless Qantas goes downhill.

...
Don;t be too sure about the "meals".

QF now advertise NP Cuisine for domestic economy ... and the service seems to have changed accordingly. (cue warmed wrap/pie, serviette and a beer for a MEL SYD 6pm flight ..)

Domestic Inflight Dining | Qantas

(Don't you get a checked bag complimentary due to status on VA?)

The destinations I want to fly to in QLD are predominantly* serviced by QFLink.

* Many destinations can be flown to with other airlines, but Qantas is the only one that flies to nearly all and offers good fares (sales).

What he said.

The First Class Lounges around the world, especially MEL and SYD are a great point of difference. I've invested a lot of time and money with Qf and it's paying off. I've got LTS and LTG is within sight.

I am happy with how I'm treated and Qf staff have looked after me where ever possible.

Very succinct and just about covers me perfectly (with the exception of the 737 MEL-PER on Saturday evening).

DJ really lose it for me with their "global alliance" arrangements.
