Vinomofo Wine Deals

Boom for me on the Zinfandel. As mentioned in the Zin thread I've been keen to try some after sampling the Cape Mentelle one. So a Margaret River one on the 'Fo from a well liked winery seems too perfect to turn down!
Tucking into one of these tonight. Very enjoyable and surprisingly easy drinking for 16.5% abv. Looking forward to the start of a beautiful friendship with this grape..

I've nearly knocked over the dozen I bought a while back and it is a delicious drop and sorely tempted to have taken advantage of buying another dozen but have bought far too much wine of late! The 16.5% is barely noticeable as you say and very fragrant and approachable (as was their Cab Sav I might add)....

Gapstead are possibly like the Brown Brothers of old. You rarely get a bad one. Out of interest, did you find the zin peppery at all?

Had one last night. First Zin / Primitivo that I can remember ever having. Very enjoyable -big and earthy and all the usual Zin cliches but all sorts of floral stuff on the nose. Which is all stuffed up at the moment so don't read too much into this ...

Luckily this time you don't need to spend a fortune to get a very good drop. Was it the Gapstead saparavi that enthralled many earlier this year?

In reply to BF if we're talking the Churchview then not really, more elusive than that, if anything it has a delicacy to it which is kinda weird considering the alcohol content!

The Churchview St Johns Zin does have that delicacy and it also shows up in another varietal, their stunning wild fermented Riesling. That one has eight per cent and you would not know. Kudos to the winemaker for putting out two very good wines, alcohol poles apart, yet both have flavour and complexity. My Zin was a 2013 and the Riesling a 2014 however I did pick up a pepperiness whose presence was admired, but on opposite sides was a gsm I had that was way over peppered. That case was returned.

He is. Gapsted's a fine bunch though. I have some of their Pinot Grigio and Fiano in the cellar. Also had a fab lunch at the winery 18 months (far too long) ago
Beautiful views after that drive up to the tasting area. We had a great Easter at Bright many years ago with friends and gave it a bit of a flogging.

Great question, and could be a reasonable swap for my Star Sangiovese which is going back. The shhpiel sounds very enticing doesn't it Wickad !

That AC fella is dammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmn good !

Back to the Grenache, I am getting a bit itchy and impatient as it reads very well, also following on from a mediocre 2013 Grenache. Plus, a little bit of variation in the varietl always helps, plus the very long cellaring potetntial. What am I doing here, trying to sell it to myself. A bit like Steadys Penfolds - how many did you buy mate?

Opened my first bottle of the grenache and it is amazing! Definitely not over rated on VM and worth a buy! Very similar to the lost buoy special on wine direct last year!

I'm buying more!

Thanks for this Dalvin. Hit the buy and anxiously await. Pricing just like the 'Fo's so good ballpark. Very high scores have my sense on anticipation on high. Cheers.

very high scores? 97pts, yes, but i'd call 94-95pts only high :)

Cracka own MyWineGuy so a lot of the offers overlap

yes but cracka also have referral credit/bonus and cashback via cashrewards :)

Is this deal good. I see on the website Ben M is the 97 point giver. Is this Barossa wine a buy?

like vinomofo, it can always be returned if you don't like it :)

fwiw i don't rate ben malouf, sam kim, tony keys as highly as the winefront trio, tyson stelzer, huon hooke

It was indeed the churchview Zinfandel. I didn't detect much of a peppery note to it. Lots of nice juicy fruits. The one downside to me was the tannins left my mouth quite dry.

Their Riesling sounds very interesting let's hope the 'fo have a line on that one soon.

Thanks qaz bought one case to try but not much decent info on it so somewhat cautious. Might buy another case of Known Pleasures. At least theres plenty of good info on it and previous bottle of it was beautiful.

I guess in my defence this whole concept of "contraband" or "mystery" wines is something I haven't dabbled in before signing on with VM hence my apparent naivety! The opportunity to pick up a first rate (and normally out of my price range) wine is highly attractive but I hadn't realised the detective work that was required compared to picking up the odd clean-skin in order to strike pay-dirt. I had already worked out the rigmarole necessary to determine the wine's identity in the case of something like the Jack Shiraz quite recently or the Ulithorne for that matter but have been reluctant to pay a subscription to some of the paid sites to glean the info from other aficionados! As far as trusting the descriptions offered by GWD or VM it may have sounded like I have swallowed the hype hook line and sinker but if we cast aside the more florid fantasies and simply concentrate on an unequivocal attribute like "big" then that wine had better be writ large or it's going straight back with Nexday....
