Boom for me on the Zinfandel. As mentioned in the Zin thread I've been keen to try some after sampling the Cape Mentelle one. So a Margaret River one on the 'Fo from a well liked winery seems too perfect to turn down!

you will not be disappointed I am sure.

The Cape Mentelle and the St Johns Churchview are VERY different wines.

The Cape Mentelle is far superior.

Yes, I understand that. Definitely not expecting anything in the same league, but seems like a good starting point for finding a Zinfandel I can afford to drink regularly!

The Fo really over committed on the Think Outside the Circle...now it's ended up in their 'premium' mixed case.

Was interested in a mixed case but not with that in it.

At $42 to $35 you make a very strong case.

At $42 to $12, well.................................. an interesting perspective of quality and value ensues.

Both wines are good and that's the great thing.

Seen the black market 2015 Tumbarumba prosecco up a few times now, anyone tried it yet? Or knows what it is? It looks interesting but I notice this time around there isn't a timer on it which makes me hesitant.

We broached one last night. 'Pleasantly inoffensive' was the verdict. Pale, dryish, good bead, it was OK.

Is anyone else having problems acessing the VM web site? Using Safari/OSX10.10.5 anything I try just comes up with the 'something is borked' page. Same with Firefox. Iphone seems to work.

I made no reference to price being the determining factor in my comparison.

Anyone tapped a Dalwhinnie as yet? Opening a few tonight I reckon, any recommendations on what to start with? Having slow cooked lamb so Shiraz or Cab well suited.

I know that by now Doc , in fact I knew it last year but for a newbee the Churchview is seriously good value for a very good wine. The Mentelle would flog it as you say but you cannot go wrong. As far as the Star Lane sangiovese goes, mediocre, not awful, not past its peak, but it will probably feature in salvation cases in the future. I am excited about more St Johns coming on, especially the wild fermented rizza.

Had the tassie Pirie sparkling this week. Whilst a very nice, crisp, nicely beading wine, my minor beef with it was what I thought was excessive gas. Not me, but looking at tasting notes has the company talking about a luscious mousse. There you go then, but it was quite nice and will just chill out in the cellar. It is a good think to step out of your normal comfort zone and try something different. In saying that, I still have not returned to sparkling reds for over a dozen years.

I've drunk a couple of my 2008 Moonambel Shiraz bottles, and they are great. Never tried their Cabernets. I'd be inclined to open the oldest ones - Moonabel's designed for the long haul.

Cheers AC, will start with 2008 Shiraz. Went to Pyrenees Unearthed this year and went to the 2012 cab sav masterclass. Andrew from Blue Pyrenees quoted the reds will outlive most of the participants!

Beefarmer, I don't seem to be keeping up with what's going on here. Is the St Johns wild fermented Riesling being offered on Vinomofo at the moment or are you just being optimistic? Is it this one? https://vinomofo.com/wines/white-wine/black-market-deal-riesling-2016

Is the Churchview about which you speak this one? https://vinomofo.com/wines/red-wine/churchview-estate-margaret-river-shiraz-2014 I see no mention of "St Johns". How does it rank against the Jeanneret Westward We Went Cabernet Malbec?

I feel like I'm a few steps behind in a chemistry experiment. All enlightenment will be appreciated.

. Scary if the st johns is up...good premonition if so....i will just check now........

nope, neither. Also this st johns is their budget range. I have not had the jeanneret but reviews were Extremely glowing......

Talking of extremely glowing, tonight's a great tv night waiting for the first commentator to 'call it first'. Great television if you like that sort of stuff. Antony Green is a beauty, Tony Jones is well, Tony Jones and Laurie Oakes is a caricature of himself. Peter Harrrvey - is he still around?. Looking forward to a nice tee bone medium and a nice, soft red. To the evictor go the spoils. Both fellows have dumped others!......%&$( Peter Costello is the first who called it, at 9.16. Who cares about the time, I only care for a bloke who gives a lot of character to the whole show...a bloke who loves a big hat, a bloke who loves a four ex....bobbie, take a bow. As far as Billie goes, will shorten shorten or shorten lengthen. Who cares.
