you beat me too it! almost fell of my seat when I saw it! how many J seats are we talking 8? 12? 16? I am thinking 8 as these aircraft fly a lot of routes in NT QLD WA.

Possibly the 5 additional 717s qantaslink are receiving will be fitted with j - I would say 9 or 12 seats (when you look at 717 layouts likely a 1-aisle-2 set up for j as it's a 2-3 set up for y. Maybe these 5 will be reserved for can-syd can-melb can-bris, and maybe can-adl flights exclusively. As the 734s that are set to retire serves these routes. This could mean can is pretty much a 717 and dash 8 port. It would make sense in fitting j for the public servant execs and pollies on these routes.
does that sound feasible and could 5 717s adequately serve these routes?

Hopefully they all get J. Makes no sense to have a gap in the jet fleet especially when VA doesn't.

Sorry to be slightly pedantic here..

MEL = Melbourne
CBR = Canberra
BNE = Brisbane

CAN = Guangzhou

Cheers,

The 146s had business class up until the 2005/2006 time frame. When that was removed QFLink no longer had business class.

If true - definitely on my to do list... 717 one of my fave aircraft!

It, along with the 787, is the only 7x7 series a/c I've not flown in (though I've flown DC9s a few times, I think it is the 717 predecessor?), so it's good to see it may operate close to home. :)

True-and the orginal 717's came with the Impulse purchase.

(Before being rebadged Jetstar, I still remember boarding and disembarking these to 'Can't stop the Moonlight' just about each and every time)

Re: 5 QFlink 717s to receive Business class + individual IFE

5 recent acquisitions announced in Jan 2013 will receive the upgrades and fly BNE/SYD/MEL-CBR. 737s will be deployed elsewhere in the network.
QantasLink jets to get business class

The 717 series production ended in 2006. These are re-deployed 717's. You can't buy new 717's --> Boeing: Out-of-Production Models

As usual the muppets at ausbt get it wrong again ---> Qantas rejigs Canberra flights: new Boeing 717s, business class - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller

Those 717s will be factory-fresh models from Boeing and come fitted with business class, however – a marked change from the 'all-economy' configuration of the regional airline's refitted Boeing 717s, which pack 125 economy seats form tip to tail

Which is why I called the acquisitions, referred to upgrades and didn't refer to them as new frames ;)

Sorry for creating new thread, didn't realise one already existed.

Agreed. It is my favourite a/c (people who know me will know what I mean there ;)).

I haven't been on one since Impulse days. Was my first 'new aircraft' smell. Great to see them back on this side of the country. Talk about great climb performance :D
