Were the 717s ever part of the mainline fleet and/or covered by the mainline QF collective agreement? This could set a new precedent regarding domestic crewing, particularly with so many A320 orders.

The 717s were always operated under their own company which is essentially Jetstar now re wages etc, its why Cobham were tasked with the 717 ops when Qlink got them.

They will be operated by Cobham, as is the existing 717 fleet.

To the best of my knowledge, the 717s were operated as QantasLink using the Impulse Airlines AOC from the time that QF bought Impulse until JQ was started. Then as JQ bought A320s on board the 717s eventually ended up with National Jet, now Cobham. Cobham will be operating the 'new' 717s.

But will they have any in flight entertainment? I fly KTA-PER often and always ensure I miss the Qantaslink flights and grab the QF whenever possible.

Row 6 looks pretty sweet.

7D remind me of 71D on a much bigger aircraft.

I am interested what IFE they put in this, if it's streaming it's a FAIL, so let's hope for a fixed IFE installation!

Considering the relative shortness of flights to CBR, other than BNE, as much as I like the streaming tech, it's not viable considering they start it after the seatbelt sign is off and end it before a usually long descent, so you'd have no time to use the system. They really need it all wired in to actually be useful on those short flights, gate to gate.

I much prefer QFLink in regards to their bar policy.

Yes - read the QF media release referenced in one of the early posts. Both J and Y seats will have entertainment (of some type).

I'd be surprised if its anything beyond fitting audio jacks and sprinkling some tv screens throughout the cabin.

"We will also be providing individual in-flight entertainment for all customers - both Business and Economy - and are currently testing the latest technology.

I really hope it's not iPads/tablets/streaming, as they are not a suitable IFE solution.

A channel selector for your audio is technically individual IFE. :)

So looks like these will more or less replace the 734's that frequent Canberra. Will be interesting to see if some Canberra-Sydney flights during the day, currently operated by Q400's are also operated by these. Good to see, especially as Canberra was meant to be the maintenance base for the 717's all those years ago when Impulse was around. Indeed the Qantas hanger was built for them.

About bloody time Qantas put 717s on flights into and out of Canberra.

If any more become available a 717 on flights into and out of HBA might be a future plan.

On the IFE, just the standard IFE like you see on the older 737s would be nice but I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't happen.

I'm guessing that's exactly what the latest technology is.

With those short flights? (CBR-BNE excepted).

By the time you're able to access streaming you might be able to pick a show and watch the opening credits before needing to turn it off again.

It doesn't seem at all practical to me. Of course I'm sure I'll be proven wrong :)

it may not be practical, but it is hard to imagine what new technology they may be talking about!

I would happy if QF use these to increase the number of jet services to CBR and reduce the Dash 8s - not a fan of the Dash so limited choices when flying to SYD currently. There used to be one Dash service from BNE to CBR - not sure if it is still there. Did it once in error - never again!

Yep the 400's are gone by the end of the year
Luckily Mrs G & I scored B734 row 5 for BNE-CBR this weekend!! I'll miss their extended legroom seats back to row 6.

will need to be gate to gate entertainment for syd-cbr if implemented. That way you can watch a full episode of something

You may not miss them at all.

Given the J/Y ratio on board these 717s I would not be surprised to see status pax being able to select some J seats with Y service at off-peak times (e.g. weekends)

I recently flew CNS-DRW and noticed how small the galley is. For a two class service the 717 will have to be re-catered every turn. I am predicting 1 cart Y meal, 1 Cart J meal, 1/2 cart J bar, 1/2 cart Y bar, 1/2 cart crew, 1/2 trash. That is the whole galley filled!
Interesting to see what service is offered.
