Agreed. It is my favourite a/c

+1 here. Great take-off roll and climb.

I think I put this in front of the 757 - which had a great climb-out, especially on those lightly loaded (total-weight) LHR-MAN BA runs.

Re: 5 QFlink 717s to receive Business class + individual IFE

Do you think that they'll fit the leather Reacro business seats?

"... premium food ... "

Is this supposed to include four cardboard postage stamps and a tooth-pick sized piece of "cheese" snack?

A large bulk of my flights last year were in seat 1A of a QF 717 from DRW - ASP and back again.

I do agree, fantastic aircraft, and would be made even better with J!

Like the old MD80's, it's one aircraft I love being near the back row for takeoff. Feels a little bit like a space shuttle would I imagine ;)

This is great news as the 737-800s are just too big for the MEL/SYD-CBR route

The 737-400 is not bad on the route, but is feeling a little old

I am interested what IFE they put in this, if it's streaming it's a FAIL, so let's hope for a fixed IFE installation!

Of course this is a response to VA and their E-Jet's so we can thank VA for making QF do something, but no doubt Qantas will do more than VA and make it a better product :)

Two errors in your post, firstly its not in response to the E jet, and the 738s are not too big, its because they dont have the J capacity needed like the old 734s which in that context mean the 738s are too small, 717s have more J seats on offer.

The 400s are gone soon, and while others disagree, I think the 800s are being used to help retire 767s.

Yep the 400's are gone by the end of the year, so it's about 1 year that the 737-800's will be operating the route....

They could have created a subfleet of 737-800's with more J seating... at the moment they generally put on a 767 when there is a mass exodus/influx of staff to/from MEL/CBR

Oh and using 717 crew is far far cheaper than mainline QF crew too, which I suspect is another good reason the 717's are coming....

Interesting in the Qantas press release the reference to "market leading" seating...If simply a recovering of the old seats, doesn't meet "market leading". But then again, not like they would put lie-flats on these planes. Will be interesting none the less.

I'm pretty excited about this, we don't see the 717 much in Melbourne so I'm looking forward to it. I think they should use the 717 in this configuration to increase Melbourne and Sydney to Hobart services too. They used them on MEL-HBA and MEL-LST back in the early 2000s in all economy configuration.

Maybe they'll swing an A330 in when all the 767s are gone.

And yes, I imagine a Cobham crewed 717 is cheaper....

Were the 717s ever part of the mainline fleet and/or covered by the mainline QF collective agreement? This could set a new precedent regarding domestic crewing, particularly with so many A320 orders.

I am not sure it would be that easy, as it is likely to be an uncertified fleet config.

I have been on quite a few 767 CBR-MEL flights in J, the loads ranged from 3-7 people each time..

The service was great, as there were quite a few J crew floating about on the short flight
