"oneworld" award (132.4K/249.6K/318K/455K) Planning - The Definitive Thread

Thanks. Found some good results for Business but unfortunately First Class on Qatar still seems like a myth
Oh, didn't realise you were after F. Been interesting searching for F lately. Planning ahead (five-oh in a few years) thinking an F ride out an back would be fun. Can't find much for "12 months*" ahead.

2 seats in F will be very difficult IMHE.

If happy with J, have you tried ADL-DOH and/or DPS-DOH? Then look for SYD-ADL or SYD-DPS, + DOH-CDG (or nearby) separately.

Good luck!

Thanks mate, I had to try on all the different routes to CDG and no luck for First. I'm not even looking for my dates just anything First on Qatar to CDG, literally nothing.

I did a bit of reading and it turns out that Qatar is limiting if not completely restricting award access to First Class Seats in general. So atleast it's Qatar's fault and not the way I am searching...

I've had the same problem. Doing some research into qatar first class it doesn't actually look that great to be honest. I am leaning towards their business Q suites, so I have been looking at seats in J for planes that have the Q suite and found there's good amount of availability. Might be worth looking into.

There qsuites do look good but I am planning a F oneworld classic so my alternative might just be to find another airline (that has First class) into Europe. Otherwise I feel I'm not getting the most value for my points.

Totally understand. I completed my first OWA in first a month ago, I had to concede my last leg in business (tokyo-bne)
The only reason I suggested it is watching YouTube videos of QR first class the seat itself didn't look that much better to what I had experienced on CX and BA to warrant choosing one of their F routes. The food on Q suite looked on par with first. I am considering booking a q suite in my next OWA.

*Edit
The bar is the only extra thing id like to experience but pretty sure you can still use it when flying J anyway

@knightfall88 and @SelfFundedWP when I picked up x2 QR F a couple of years back I rang QF, who informed me that they would contact QR for release. By the following morning the QR F booking was in my QF account. I am not sure if the process has changed. From memory I could not see the F seats via the QF site, I just called up to give it a shot and it worked.

Thanks mate, I'll definitely give that a shot

Heads-up for anyone looking to fly from South Africa to Europe with Oneworld: Iberia is discontinuing JNB-MAD from the end of August.

I'm currently booked on the following in J
AKL-HKG (CX)
HKG-FRA (CX) - LHR (BA)
INV-LHR (BA) - HND (JL)
NRT-SYD (JL)

I'm thinking of dropping the initial AKL-HKG which will change the point of sale to HKG. I don't have enough QF points to complete a dummy booking online to see the difference in charges on QF moving from NZD to HKD. Could anyone do me a favour and check what the difference would be? I have had to make some ongoing changes to this booking with QF to add sectors as they became available and the experience with QF on the phone has been nothing short of appalling so I would rather avoid speaking to them.

I'm not sure dropping the first leg would change the PoS to HK. I actually thought of doing the same to my booking last year but was told by the Qantas CSR (and others on this forum) that dropping the first leg wouldn't change the PoS of an existing booking. So I didn't end up trying. Would be interested to know if this works for you.

It could be an outrageously good opportunity if you can start with POS MNL and then drop the first flight. Keen to know more.

Does anyone know if I have 2 separate OWA bookings that I haven't commenced; is it possible to move one (or more) flights from one booking to another?

Quick question about whether backtracking is allowed on this award. Looking at bringing the Mother in Law out from overseas with the flights being something like MVD-MAD-KUL-SYD-HKT-SYD-MVD. I know on a normal RTW that I can't do the SYD-HKT-SYD but can you on this award?

Yes, you CAN backtrack. This is NOT a RTW award. You can travel in any direction from anywhere (subject to the stop & transit rules, total distance, etc.)

Interesting indeed. Would have been more than happy to book MNL-HKG with a stopover then HKG-FRA on CX and then later drop the MNL-HKG sector and still have the entire trip priced in Peso...
