End of an Era? QF ends A380 operations ex MEL 24 October 2026

I see daily posts about social media checking.
That's fine you believe what you want. ,
again, the point is that at least a significant % of the circa 90,000/month who travel to the US who are not US citizens, also see a different USA

However I could never describe a country which has more guns than people as "welcoming".
Thats fine, no one saying you have to travel there.

My point remains that it is objectively false to say there is no demand for travel to USA from Australia or that the passengers on the transpacific route are only US citizens going home.

Circa 90,000 people outbound a month to USA says so.

A separate thread has been created specifically for discussion regarding retiming QF93 and the extension of QF10 to MEL

Not every post discussing the new topic has been moved, as they were still relevant to the A380 discussion.

QF just do not value or respect MEL. Until last weekend the only international airport without a curfew and the only maor airport with integrated domestic and international terminals making transfer simple.
Flying via SYD is awful and a total waste of time.
Thanksfully BA will be starting soon and first our of MEL on a OW airline remains an option.

Perth has not had a curfew in at least the last 50 years. And has been an international airport since 1944. Brisbane, Adelaide, Darwin and Hobart are also curfew free.
You beat me to it Ozduck….

I think you are being a bit dramatic frankly. Qantas serve internationally ex Melbourne:

Auckland, Christchurch, Dallas, Bali, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Los Angeles, Queenstown, Singapore, Tokyo and Wellington directly. Plus London and New York accessible all on Qantas with a single stop as they have been for some years.

What is it that you demand that they don't do? Sydney is the main hub of Qantas, they can't replicate that at every port but they have a very significant presence at Melbourne.

Also, just because the A380 doesn't feature ex Melbourne in the current 26/27 schedule doesn't mean it won't be reallocated to Melbourne again at some future time.

I think that sums up the problem for everyone who lives anywhere other than Sydney.
It's not just their main hub. It's all they care about.
And I disagree with you as per the list of places served ex Melbourne. They have mini intl hubs at Melbourne Brisbane and Perth . How many hubs does BA have ? AY? SQ? TG? CX? Answer: one
