Vinomofo - Matahiwi Estate 'Reserve Selection' Pinot Noir 2016 ...

No info on the Matahiwi website on this supposed 'Reserve Selection'....Langtons seemed to have stocked it at some stage...possible made for VM?

Has anyone had any experience with the winery? Or with this wine in particular? I'm on the lookout for a Pinot quaffer.
I was after the same, found it quite unbalanced with a fairly acidic finish. Sent it back. I haven't had much luck of late for a pinot quaffer, has anyone else?

Good and cheap for Pinot Noir is usually mutually exclusive.

I bought this one @ $35pb and am very happy with the wine Vinomofo - Tarras The Canyon Pinot Noir 2014 - Red Wine

I've bought a few other Pinots from VM over the last year or two, in the $25-$50 range, both NZ and Australian (no French), none sent back.

This one has an impressive list of awards: Vinomofo - Brennan B2 Pinot Noir 2014 - Red Wine
But it's actually the second level wine for Brennan and is $30NZD ex-winery in NZ, don't know how VM end up at the $50 winery price. Also, the Sam Kim rating is 94, not 96.
Brennan
B2 Pinot Noir 2014
Rating: 94
It is hugely appealing on the nose showing dark berry, smoked game, toasted almond, cocoa and truffle aromas, leading to a sumptuous palate that offers excellent fruit concentration and velvety texture. The wine is beautifully composed and flowing, and delivers waves of seductive fruit and savoury flavours. At its best: now to 2020. $30.00. www.brennanwines.com. June 2017.

Not tried it (Buzz likes it iirc) and not VM but..... the Mike Press PN is cheap and gets good reviews

I got very surprise by the Casillero Del Diablo Reserva (from Chile). It's fruity and delicate. Remind me a bit of the ones that you can find in Southern Highlands. A good value at $13.30 from Dan. It was even better last month at $50/6! The problem is that I didn't buy enough and now I can't pay anymore $80/case when I know that I got it for $50 before ;)

If you do try a bottle, I would love to hear what you think.

Cheers,

I agree with @redbigot, however besides a few that I mentioned in the pinot thread last week, Dan's currently has De Bortoli Villages (2016 HH90) for $15 as part of this month's member specials, otherwise...

2016: 94pts - Halliday Top 100

Note that I haven't tried any of these - and there's always Hoddles Creek :)

My Glenlofty shiraz arrived yesterday. I opened the box this morning to see that it had a different label to that which I'm used to seeing on their wines. It appears it's their "Estate" range and not the single vineyard as per their previous offerings. It's difficult to find much on the estate range on GL's website or others. I've not tried it yet, I couldn't face it after Melbourne Cup shenanigans, but I'm interested to see if it lives up to the previous wines.

As my parents were in town from overseas we cracked a bottle open last night. Although I believe it still has a small amount of viognier in it, it was pretty different to what I was expecting and from my previous recollection of the SV. It was still fairly light, it's certainly no fruit bomb. But it was maybe a little less sweet/floral and more firm than the original SV. It actually went down very well, so much so we opened a second bottle.

Which do I prefer? I'd probably say the original, especially at the bargain price that it was. Maybe it's to do with the fact that I found the original SV was a bit more unusual from other reds I'd been drinking. The new offering is perhaps a more familiar taste and maybe not one that distinguishes from other shiraz in the way the SV IMO did. Having said this, I'm not disappointed and it wont be sent back.

Agree with this. I love the Shiraz Viognier.
The 14 shiraz does not quite have that wow factor, however it was still good drink for $14. Particularly the next day after opening up a bit.

i've got a case on the way looking forward to trying it. Will be a tough ask to beat the SV and the '12 Shiraz. Got two bottles of each left and wish i had more. good times.

I fancy going a little off piste here, anyone have any real experience with th Fo's Barolo's on offer? High level google searches seem to indicate that the A$ prices seem broadly on par with the odd high end Sydney or Melbourne bottle shop. Was looking at the below in particular.

Vinomofo - Raise the Barolo Pack - Mixed Case

The Giovanni Rosso’s are quite approachable now. Usually $100+ in the shops (VM stock is a parallel import).

I found the Manzone’s I’ve tried to be a lot more tannic - even the 2007. Seems like a more traditional style that requires extended cellaring if you want softer tannins.
