Western Sydney Airport (WSI) Discussion

Tickets go on sale tomorrow, meaning the first ticket purchased out of the new airport will be to Singapore and not domestic.
That’s a good thing but hardly surprising. International airlines need a good decent lead time to get their act together.

The domestic stuff can happen much closer but they still need to sell some tix a good few months ahead.

SQ will basically be the only international airline at WSI for 2026 so far, as any later announcements for international carriers at WSI throughout the year are likely to have longer lead times into 2027.

Great news, but I was surprised that it is a daily flight. I would have thought they would do 4 flights per week first to see loadings. They must be very confident that this route will be a success,

Interesting its a day flight to WSI and night flight from WSI.

Presumably to take advantage of no curfew and a different offering to SYD.

With regards to all the naysayers talking about “well it’s just a commitment, the airlines haven’t confirmed they’ll fly from WSI”, look at what’s popped up on the SQ desktop website. Special launch fares coming soon?

The link leads to a 404 error for now but it looks like it’s ready to go live soon.
Looks like booking was originally supposed to have opened even before 18 March?

Depends. Other than for some possible startup costs, are the ongoing costs any cheaper than SYD. Remember this has been built as a 2nd full service airport not a low cost operation.

QZ from DPS to SYD a more likely candidate. Indonesia still has capacity on their side of the bilateral (even though they are disadvantaged against the Australian O&D.

With the remote stands on both sides of the terminal QZ could easily save money on aerobridge gate usage.

I think JQ will fly DPS, and will be far more popular than QZ.

VJ could be another candidate due to WSI's closeness to Cabramatta.

As it stands the Air Services Agreement with Indonesia will count WSI as part of Sydney (It counts AVV as Melbourne) so there’s no availability for Australian carriers.

I fully expect Zipair to be looking seriously at WSI to coincide with then getting more planes. They can seriously give JQ (and even QF) a run for their money with a real J seat on LCC fares to Japan.
