Western Sydney Airport (WSI) Discussion

Redeye to SIN
View attachment 501552

and a 10:20pm arrival into Western Sydney.... might just make it into the city by midnight if you're first off the plane, probably no chance by train though.

Unless the fare is cheap enough to offset the expensive taxi/Uber to get out there, we'll stick to SYD.

Good for people who live out that way though. For many this will be almost as inconvenient as flying into NTL. Or going to AVV instead of MEL.

Might be of benefit to those who want to connect from the early LHR flights into SIN or from a whole stack of Asian ports.
Obviously won’t be everyone’s cup of tea but I do think people will be surprised at how popular it is

Hoping JQ has some DPS or NRT routes planned. Bali speaks for itself but Japan has become a very popular place for tourism these days. Maybe SGN as well considering the demographics in that area.

But, I guess they want to see how WSI patronage is before that...

Given WSI is meant to have the third largest catchment area in the country behind Sydney and Melbourne and ahead of every other capital city in the country, I'm sure there will be decent demand for these flights particularly given how popular Singapore is. Lot of family travel no doubt between WSI and India/Asia hubs.

If priced $50-$100 cheaper in economy, it will appeal to the budget traveller who overseas picks flights from Gatwick or Stanstead in London.

I expect the SQ flight will be very popular with the multinational Data Centre corporations with site in Eastern Creek and Kemps Park

There's also the Canberra market. A lot of us the Murrays bus to get to Sydney International and back, to avoid paying the "Canberra Tax" on CBR-SYD flights and to avoid delays with fog or cancelled flights (which happens all too often). If Murrays set up a similar service to WSI, then that would work for us. The daytime flight would be a bonus.

Why? Data centres need power, water and fibre connectivity with trunk land points such as broadway in Sydney, they tend not to have a need for much staff or airports. Next DC has 200 staff for its 30 odd centres, Airtrunk 400 odd. Most of those are cable guys who don’t go anywhere.

Again, won’t be DPS for Australian carriers as there is no available capacity from the major cities.

Sure, the technicians may not travel, but Management travel, customers travel.

Air travel in that industry is very rare, something called zoom does the job, I am a recent participant in that at exec level, thank god for LTG

JQ could move existing capacity potentially?

Why give up proven demand from the major ports (which have feeder routes) for a gamble on WSI?

The capacity is awarded for airline / route combinations, airlines would have to apply to move the capacity.

It's great you have all the numbers in front of you

In my totally un-experted opinion, with no analysis to back it up - I suspect WSI will be a raging success even before they sort out the Transport/Metro and fuel pipeline issues and Airlines will scramble to get flights to/from there.

I’m guessing that’s a dig but they are available here. Load factors in the mid to high 90s to Indonesia for JQ, VA and QF in the most recent report.

Load factors don't mean everything if you have to sell a large number of seats for very little

Yeah, short term I can’t see any DPS flights from WSI
