Western Sydney Airport (WSI) Discussion

Yes, that's fine, but what I mean is that everyone could just walk away from what they have "committed" to, if it doesn't pan out how they might have hoped.

Committed in my mind suggests legally binding rather than just a proposal. There's nothing to stop these players from just walking away AFAIK.

Well, sure but I think @jase05 will tell you there sure is some commitment going ...

Yes, dedicated Freight is pretty much baked into the start of ops.

But until airlines start selling flights for self loading cargo, there’ll be some scepticism on how successful the visible part of WSI will be.

Irrespective of what happens to RPT services, there will be freight services. Press releases indicate facilities around the airport are 90% leased. No point in leasing them if there are no services. Of course different workforce to RPT services, but workforce still needed.

Absolutely. From our perspective we need JQ out there straight away with some decent schedules too

Skeptics everywhere.

I remember people saying why the hell did they build Tullamarine “all the way out there”, who wants to travel there, why the hell is there a four lane divided highway when there is barely any traffic, a huge terminal overbuilt for passenger growth that will never happen 🙄.

People will go, it may not be a roaring passenger success on day one.

But 24h ops has its merits even for pax perspective. There are likely other airlines eyeing WSI and not committing yet because they're not ready for expansion, WSI isn't operational yet, transport links aren't done or any combination of those reasons.

If by 2028 we have almost no pax airlines flying into WSI then we start worrying about its viability as a Passenger airport.

With regards to all the naysayers talking about “well it’s just a commitment, the airlines haven’t confirmed they’ll fly from WSI”, look at what’s popped up on the SQ desktop website. Special launch fares coming soon?

The link leads to a 404 error for now but it looks like it’s ready to go live soon.

Hopefully that'll be a late night departure which Sydney desperately needs.

It would be ironic if the first international flight takes off before first domestic flight at WSI. But hey good news for Western Sydney.

It has to be a midnight departure.

Domestic are still planned to start first but who knows. At our most recent info session we were told QF/JQ are ready and that both SQ and NZ will start on the same day as each other not long after.

Which QF subsidiary are operating these?
I’m not sure as the details were pretty basic.
But from what was presented it seems the group are looking at around 30-40 flights per day when it opens and hopefully 70-80 flights per day within 6 months. JQ would have around 70% of those initially. I did query a few things that would benefit my job and QF will run the E190’s out of there to start.
I don’t know what QF’s fleet management looks like and don’t know of other services will be affected to cover it

It seems sensible for a midnight departure given SQ seems to have a bank of early morning flights arriving in SIN (5-6am) from BNE, MEL, PER, and DRW at present.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a morning departure ex-SIN at a time similar to the current SQ211 which arrives at 9pm and sits overnight in SYD.

And also more options to transit to Hong Kong as well.

Went down the M12 motorway today and I saw the sphere structure at the airport intersection.

100kmh speed limit except towards the end. 25 mins from Liverpool.

Brand new and only built for 100 instead of 110?

Driving through Europe last year and almost all motorways were 130 with some sections 120.
