Credit Card Offers Virgin Money Velocity Flyer Offers & Discussion

I see Virgin Money doesn’t currently offer these cards (and not sure they are coming back), looks possible they are in wind down mode so unsurprising if the product isn’t getting much attention!

I had multiple calls with Virgin this was the timeline
- first 40k paid instantly on first statement
- second 40k earned in 2nd statement (nov)
- points transferred January 2nd
- system issues apparently from the migration last year
- paid in march statement

Been like that since the platform migration in November which was a complete disaster.

Except by looking at your Velocity points on their App, is there anyway to see how many points you earn via the Virgin Money card? Especially if you earn some via Virgin flights etc. I cannot see them on the monthly statement anymore or find them on the web or the Money App.

Seems like the product is just cruising without offering service anymore. I just hope they pay me the extra points after 12 months. As a retiree, applying for points earning cards becomes much harder.

The VM app will not show points earning nor on your statements.
It’s pretty opaque.

Virgin Money (as NAB did with MyCard) is taking away any incentive to keep your card.

Biggest one for me being the earn rate will drop. Was $1 = 1 VFF. From 1 October it will be $1 = 0.75 VFF.

Piss poor.

I have the Flyer card, and the fee moves from $149 to $169 and the earn rate goes from $1 = 0.66 VFF points to 0.5 VFF points for the first $1500 per month and any over that going from 0.5 to 0.25 VFF points.

It's a raw prawn indeed.

I haven’t been notified of the changes as yet. I assume you were notified by email?

All frequent flyer credit cards will be heading this way, for obvious reasons that we all know about.
I'll be cancelling my credit card and starting to use my debit card after this; the points earn rate was the only reason I kept it, but at this earn rate, I don't see the point(s) any longer ;)
Far easier ways to earn points, and I'll concentrate on those methods far more now.

In positive news, they are removing international transaction fees from 1st October.
"If an overseas purchase is processed by us on or after 1 October 2026, you will not be charged an International Transaction Fee."

Changes for existing customers, from October 1st, can be found here: Important information about your Virgin Money Credit Card

Would card sign up bonuses be affected as well?

They appear to be still there for now, as seen on the link below. As to whether these remain in effect from October 1st, that remains to be seen.

If wanting to sign up for the welcome points (if spend criteria is met), I would be doing that before October 1st, as I'd be surprised if these aren't at least decreased (hard to know, I could be wrong).

I've searched high and low for this and can't find it on the 'changes page' or the Variation Notice for the Flyer card. Are you able to point to it please, as it *may* make an impact on my keep/turf decision? Thanks!

Sure, right here....

**However, it looks like this ONLY applies to the Anytime Rewards Card :/

The FAQ refers to it being removed from the Anytime Rewards card.

Thanks oz_mark and simmomelb, I appreciate it. Shame it's not for the Flyer. Think its one for the junk heap - used to be ok when the fee equaled the voucher, and I'm tending to drift away from Velocity now anyways.

Yeah, I guess after you take the $129 per year credit into account, the effective yearly fee is $40 from October 1st.
Not much of a fee still, but the points are barely worth it after the change. But I guess once we stack it up against all the other cards that will do the same/similar reduction, it'll all be very similar, I would imagine. Decisions decisions.

Edit: Just got this email from Virgin Money. I quite like Mobile Phone insurance being added.

Changes to your rates, fees and points

The interest rate for retail purchases will increase
The interest rate for cash advances will increase
The Annual Fee on the High Flyer Card will increase
The Annual Fee on the Flyer Card will increase
Your points earn rate will change

What’s being added?

Mobile Phone Insurance will be added
Click to Pay will be added, so that you can check out securely without entering your card details at participating merchants.

The real kicker is this: the RBA decision will mean that merchants have to build transaction fees into their prices. There is no way merchants will absorb the costs. And then you'll get merchants who will absolutely increase prices by more than what it costs them.

At the end of the day the only loser is the end consumer - higher prices all around, less card benefits.
