Otoh…… …. life is an adventure and, imo, would be a tad boring if I just drank predictable stuff that I like.
Buying with my heart, I have some disappointments but also some triumphs… the joy of the chase...
A wine that hits the spot for my palate is especially enjoyable when it comes from an unexpected source.

Yeah, been there, done that, But with an ever-diminishing number of bottles remaining in my drinking life I just want every one to be enjoyable, anything from the cellar that doesn't make the grade (not many) goes down the drain or into cooking if not too bad. I still taste a lot of different wines, have two weekly wine tasting groups with 6-7 wines tasted at each and a wide variety of styles, although one group of mostly oldies are mostly Shiraz fanatics, there is still a wide range of styles to explore for just that one grape. A good wine is never boring.

In Canberra. Mondays at 5:30 at a Thai restaurant, that group started in 1975 at the Department of Health, I started in 1976, in continuous operation since then, pandemics permitting. The second one is Thursdays in a private home, that one started at ATO in the mid-late 1980's, used to be fortnightly, but life's short and there are a lot of wines to taste, so it's weekly now. I used to go to a monthly one as well, with 12 wines, but it got a bit much having 3 in a week.

Interesting. One of the few times I change from red to white is when I am eating Asian food.

Don't get me started on how well a lot of red wines go with (authentic) Thai food...
We used to put a polystyrene 3-pack of Aussie red wine in each suitcase on our annual trips to Thailand or other SE Asia destinations.

Having thoroughly enjoyed the 2018 Montara Riesling, I boomed when the 2016 came on offer. I arrived home today to find the case by the front door - it looked like it had been opened, so I went to check that all 12 bottles were still there and found that the bottles were cold and damp to touch. Seems I had missed the delivery by about 30 minutes and they had been sent via a refrigerated courier. HDS is all I can identify from the label (I am in the Brisbane area). My Vinomofo wines normally come via Australia Post. Anybody else had their wine arrive cold and ready to drink?

Service like that i would appreciate at 11.59.59pm. Nice to have the first one out chilled a bit just on hump hour. Ironically my replacement purchase for the recent Doc Adams 2016year 1838 Shiraz could not be delivered by a mob that could well have been HDS and so via email they tell me they have offloaded it to Aussie Post. Ironically the first ever stuff up with a non sent delivery by anyone in my own living memory. That's three months. That's Alzheimers. That's not really true. It's really three months. Only amusing myself at half to midnight.

Mostly Shiraz or Durif, warmer climate, ripe, not too tannic or very oaky. Cabernets don't work so well. Mature Spanish reds work too and are often the best value to buy locally in Thailand, although there are a fair number of Aus reds on sale too.

One sublime match that sticks with me was a bottle of Warrabilla Parola's Durif with 5+ years of age on it, about 17% a/v, paired with take away market food in Surat Thani, fiery spicy and lots of local green herbs/leaves. All of us (2 farang, 4 Thai) blown away by the combo. When visiting Thai friends in Bangkok they would turn on the a/c to high so we could enjoy reds we brought and those they had brought back from Australia years before, Noon, Eileen Hardy, Bin 389, with good Thai food.

Not had a cold delivery yet but good to see someone else hopping on the Montara riesling. I picked up some of that and also the Montara Chalambar Road shiraz 2018 - a premium shiraz from a very good vineyard.

HDS HDS Home Delivery Services seem to be scoring more wine delivery business, Grays wine deliveries to me are now via HDS (was Aus post), but not in refrigerated vans.

Good news for me.
Last few months AusPost have been carp.
Deliveries assigned to undesired safe drop & subsequent bounce to LPO. Complaint "resolved" by explaining to me how to activate safe drop.
Subsequent sign for deliveries did not activate 2h window advice.
Why can't they implement real time tracking?
Delivery delays x2 revealed as damaged & lost respectively only after enquiry.
Random tracking codes provided with no correlation with purchases. I like mystery buys as much as anyone, but ...
And we haven't hit the Xmas rush yet.
Interesting to see how well execs reward themselves?
I can't support them any more as a National Institution.

The invoice said 2013 Bull Trader but point taken, was this one of the VM wines where the authenticity of vintage was disputed? (failing braincells, I blame it on shiraz)...
