I forgot I had one more post to go. the paramedics were called. Two women and they were fantastic. I was soon nearly pain free and up on the trolley with little trouble.
I was taken to Prince Charles hospital and I hoped I would be kept there as it has a very good reputation in dealing with hip fractures including getting physicians involved early through the ortho geriatrics team. I was taken into emergency fairly quickly And seen by 2 exceptional nurses and then the orthopaedics registrar. Another woman. And maturally the radiographer was a woman..
I was taken to a holding bay where the registrar for the physician team reviewed me on arrival.she then arranged for me to have a nerve block for the pain by a member of the anaesthetic team. She did an excellent job. finally the orthopaedic specialist arrived. The first male. He told me he was going to operate in the morning but the hospital had booked 3 transplnt proceedures so I would be transferred to St. andrews in the morning and added to his afternoon list there. It was 6am and at 0830 I was once again whisked off by 2 paramedics in an ambulance again 2 women.
As I feared things were not as good as at Prince Charles. The next time I saw a physician was 2 days later just as I was to be transferred to Buderim. I felt about as good as the view.
I got to the Theatre at about 8pm but my surgery started at 10.30. I got to IC about 3am. They decided to give me tapentadol. vomiting happened soon after followed by severe hallucinations. I was nearly over it when dinner was brought around.
The nausea got worse. On the third day I asked if I could be transferred to Buderim. about 2 hours later i was on my way. An ordinary ambulance with a woman driver. Now although the view fro my room looked like a prison I felt much better. Many of the staff knew me from the time I worked there.
And the food was better.
They tidied up my wounds.
At 3 weeks in I was feeling happy as little pain and often just needing walking stick. plus I had my gold shorts.
Unfortunately that was the calm before the storm. I got home on good Friday and learnt Mrsdrron wasn't coping as well as she said.
Been a long hard road but doing much better now.
So again Travel when you can physically can. You don't know what the future will bring.
