Vinomofo Wine Deals

Now having two reviews of the Fox I will add a third and try not to be as expressive or illustrative as WD. I Will make this a rather succinct analysis. Three of us all said it"s going back

I feel a little like Wozza did at the tail end of last year. Too many returns. Before you ask, like AC has mentioned, I found it too thin, a little bitter, poorly developed fruit with an end palate minor harshness. Oh well,.that's my w(h)ine.

My CT notes:
Red cherry flavours, with some pepper and spice on the finish. Light tannins. Definitely lighter bodied than the 2013, perhaps reflecting the vintage. Tasted over two nights, more complex on the second night. Could be 88+ with some cellaring time. CT87

I'm going to keep mine - it's not great, but for $10, it's not bad, and may develop over the next 1-2 years. I know some of the family and friends like the simplistic, fresh, drink-now, style that this is, so I reckon I can gift a few away :)

I think I agree with your numbers. My wife and brother in law both really didn't like it, more harsh at the end for them. It's not the worst obviously, but it does show up this made for the fo type of product in my opinion. Obviously with another night sitting the wine showed more of the primary fruit coming through. I liked the slight pepper thrown in there but maybe it needs time to balance.

Probaly glad I didn't jump on the bandwagon and hit the trigger on the Fox+Hounds (if not the bullseye) there's plenty more budget wine to be had methinks from that great 'Fo in the sky, hmmm the Handpicked is hardly budget but.....

I have opened a bottle tonight and I am enjoying it. It is not as well developed as the 2013, but still a good drop. I will be hanging on to mine as a pleasant quaffer. I am sure I wouldn't do better for the price if I wandered into a bottlo on a Friday evening.

Sounds like a case of damning with faint praise ;)

Well I said I'd report back on the Hart of the Barossa The Brave 2013 and here it is as promised (I've inserted an image of the wine as it might be going back in time a bit for some of our newest members):
View attachment 77259

Pulled the corkscrew out and popped it open (yes, that's right it is under cork) FWIW the cork is one piece/natural and appears to be of good quality. Poured a moderate amount into a glass and observed the very deep alizarin crimson hue fading to magenta, certainly quite alluring. The nose, well I picked up black cherry, chinese 5-spice, a hint of vanilla and a hard-to-describe slightly marzipan/medicinal dimension. I had expected the palate to be bigger and bolder than was really the case, a bit of pre-sales hype perhaps? These adjectives come to mind: soft, round, gentle, yielding. Little astringency or oak definition to my tastebuds, the flavours hinted at previously of black cherry and subtle vanilla but really not getting the boldness or robustness indicated by CM. If this has "...all guns blazing" then they're pop-guns rather than 44 Magnums! That isn't to say that it is lacking necessarily. Anyway, a relatively long finish as the shots echo round the room of strawberry ripple ice cream, a teensy bit underwhelming in my book, will revisit it tonight to see how it has fared....

Addendum: had another crack at it tonight and it hasn't grown wings and soared away I'm afraid, OKish, probably only a 90 W&D points from me, I'm curious to hear what others have made of it.
Good summary Whining&dining. Over 3 days and aerated I would say subtle dark berry flavours; soft tannins but not a lot of depth. The finish is smooth. Overall compared to the 2012 disappointing. I think its like a lot of 2013 wines and needs some time maybe up to 2 years. Not sure but at the moment a take it or leave it wine. Cheers

The first half of your username is getting tiresome.
I must say I don't know both of you but if that's the best you can come up as your first post on Vinomofo Wine Deals, then someone should bump you and ensure you firstly stick to the topic and secondly not criticize someone who has imparted many quality reviews about Vinimofo wines. Just as well your nickname has the b in third place and not first. Stick to more amorous wine speak next time jun.

Thanks Sigmadelta, I boomed on this. Had $50 referral credit burning a hole in my browser window so thought why not. CM93+ and JH96, hopefully it stands up.

If you're not as lucky as The Warlock to have credit but are interested in the Handpicked pinot, then [post=1480869]My Wine Guy still has it for $29.99[/post] - pm me for a free delivery code :)

Have you (or anyone for that matter) tried the Handpicked Tassie Pinot qaz? Saw a few luke warm reviews on Vivino after I'd boomed.

Welcome aboard flinty :) I hope you find time to have a look around the rest of this frequent flyer site as there are lots of tips and info on all sorts of things. Have you tried any of these wines? If so what are your thoughts?

I enjoyed the Marker - good body and flavour with a bit of spice, by then again I'm partial to a good, peppery WA Shiraz. The Spy Valley is too aromatic for my taste. It is a dessert wine, but likely to overpower whatever it is supposed to accompany. Still waiting for the Willunga.

These first reviews coming in for the Fox and Hounds is really pi$$ing me off.....didn't the Fo's description say full bodied??? Yet I'm pretty sure all of you have mentioned its quite thin!? Grrrrr

Just had a look at the Marker on the maker's website and gleaned this bit of info:

Varieties: Shiraz 60% Cabernet Sauvignon 40% Region: Pemberton/Manjimup
Alcohol: 14.5%
Production: 200 dozen

That seems like a quite a limited production run to me and even if the whole allocation was sent VM's way (which it presumably isn't as it's still showing on Rosenthal's website) that's only 200 VM subscribers to get a crack at it! Makes it rather boutique and another very tempting purchase...

looking like the perfect swap with the fox and hounds for me...lol

Well I'm guessing it's not made for the 'Fo as it's available publicly and a 94 from JH so it can't be too shabby methinks! (I must say WA wines in general are floating my dinghy of late so I'll have to control my itchy trigger finger)...

Sorry, only had their Mornington one, which was excellent but expensive, being off a wine list - I had actually wanted the Little Yarra, but that was sold out, so a good substitute :)

My phone is not putting notes under where they should be, but chris75, go out and buy an epsilon shiraz for twenty bucks and you will have no doubt that it could retail for 60. I am disillusioned with the fo,s latest offerings and put my reputation (it's not a lot) on the line with that one. Same price point. Others will give you blinders from elsewhere....single botts and easy to get to help you out....hope this concept helps you.
